For classes like physics 1A, do we need to actually bring the books with us to class and discussion?
I stumbled upon a .pdf of the book and the quality is pretty good.

I've rarely seen people bother bringing textbooks to lecture. Textbooks are nice during discussion if you have questions on specific homework problems or on topics in the book.

how does the library reserve system work... how long can you check out a book for?

thanks!

the optional part was exactly why i posted... are they really necessary? or just for more information/own good?

Entirely dependent on the professor. Consider sending him/her an e-mail if you want the information before classes begin.

One of the books in the list for my GE Cluster is A Short Hist Of Nearly Everything, and it's required. However, there is no new or used price. Does this just mean that I should buy the book from somewhere else like Amazon?

okay thanks a lot Nit.

if books for a class were already posted, is there any chance that more will be added?

-library reserve: check books out in 2-hour increments (in other words you have to recheck them out at the end of 2 hours. so basically you do your hw in the library)

-no new/used price means UCLA doesn't yet have them in stock, but they will. you can wait til they get them, or just buy now from amazon.

-highly unlikely that more books for a class will be posted if the class already posted its books

This happens for course readers.

yes but those aren't really books =P

hmm anyone know if i need the prescribed edition of shakespeare for 142b? I have my own, with my notes, annotations etc. that I'd prefer to use anyway, and paying another $80 for a different edition of the same thing doesn't strike me as particularly logical...but do you know if the 'introductory notes' or anything will be referred to? Cuz that'd probably be the only reason I'd see to need them...

If the intro is the only reason you'd need to buy a new book, see if you can't borrow it from the library or from a friend and do the assignment while you have the book, and/or just make copies.

i got chem 20 series book

anyone have the ISBN for the SAVitch ABSOLUTE C++ book and the rogawski Single VAriable CAlculus?

my chem teacher, scerri, advises to buy a new course reader rather than a used one? Should I?

He gets $$ for it.

But he also might have changed the material. Check it out.
