Textbooks

thanks for the reassurance.

i read that the maximum number of boxes you could have on move-in day were 10. but in the email, it said 8 boxes?! also, aren’t you not allowed to send in boxes prior to August 17th? sorry for all the questions!

asseenontv, if you ship your stuff FedEx for movein weekend, your stuff stays with FedEx the whole time and is in a FedEx trailer on campus. I would advise against sending something that would have to be delivered by a postman. For whatever reason, the regular post office services in New Orleans seem to be less efficient than postal service elsewhere.

I’m thinking of ordering books from the Tulane bookstore so that they can be easily returned in case any course changes need to be made. Is it a bad idea to order used books online, since you can’t see what condition they’re in??

My s does a combination of the 2, Luckyme. Some books have to be ordered from the bookstore b/c they are made by the professors or are very new editions that are hard to get on line or something. My s just ordered some history books from the bookstore b/c he may change his schedule around a bit (he really overloaded himself and wants to se if it is too much) and it will be easier to return the books to the store. Also, you can request a used book from the bookstore, but that doesnt guarantee they’ll have one, and you might be stuck paying full price for a text.

Also, at the end of the year there is a guy who sets up a table somewhere on or just off campus (not sure, DS handled it while we were packing up the car) who buys back used books at a reasonable price and just hands you cash for them. Much easier than trying to sell them yourself on line. He may not take every book, but he takes a lot.

*** also, a lot of the online booksellers are very clear about the condition of the books. We’ve been buying on line since the boys were in HS and the descriptions of the condition were always very accurate.

i bought 3 books from the uni bookstore. one book from half.com and three others from alibris.com

i saved almost $450
