How, and more importantly WHEN, do you guys usually get your textbooks? My adviser told me that they were in the process of going from suggestion to mandatory that professors have the texts up by registration but only two of my professors have book lists showing up on Wolverine Access. When should I expect those to actually come up? Should I go ahead and buy the listed books now? When do people normally do this? How do you like to get your books, online? Reserve copies at Ulrichs or something? Do you go during welcome week? What's the best way? How should I absolutely NOT do it? Do I need the books for the first day of class?

I am transferring and at my former college they had one central university bookstore (and about a sixth of the enrollment, so they could do this) and the books were already all figured out and you just had to go pick them up at your convenience. So this is a fair bit more involved I guess!

You can get your books whenever, but you will get the best price right now. Just check every week or so to see if the prof. put the book list up on wolverine access.
One thing to remember is to NEVER buy (or sell) textbooks from (to) ulrichs, michigan book and supply, or b&n unless they are the only people to carry the books.
Buy them (new or used) from amazon or half.com
Or check local listing on fb or Ubook for other students selling books.
Just remember that the bookstores are a COMPLETE ripoff and to never deal with them whenever possible.

Everything blackpen said is dead on. The bookstores are ripoffs. The student book exchange is a great place to get your books. Theres no middleman so everythings cheaper. It’s usually the first week of the semester

I agree with what everyone’s said so far. Also, try checking the michigan union bookstore website, because sometimes they have the textbook info for the class even though the course guide and/or wolverine access might not.
