If I order my textbooks now for the courses that I am currently registered for but later decide to change a course (whether it is before classes start or after), can I return the book for the dropped class for a full refund? If this makes a difference, I am buying new books rather than used. Yes, I know they are cheaper used but that's not what I am focusing on now.

there’s probably something like if u return it w/in 2 wks yr fine but i would check the website or call penn bookstore

yes, up to a certain date (ususally the add deadline, i think)

Yeah, after more snooping I found the exact answer. This is on the website in case anyone else was wondering

“A full refund will be given in your original form of payment if textbooks are returned with a receipt during the first two weeks of class.
With proof of a schedule change and a receipt, a full refund will be given in your original form of payment during the first 30 days of classes.”

Good for you. Our kids bought new textbooks too; it forces you to concentrate more on your reading with doing your own underlining. My S kept some of his textbooks and reviewed them for his job interviews.

Don’t order direct. Use half.com or something like it.

How do you find out what books are required?
In my schedule, none of my course descriptions say anything about it…

use the penn bookstore site and search by course number

When I look at the textbooks required on penn’s bookstore site, all but one of my classes don’t have any books picked out yet. Does anyone know when most of these will come out?

Most should be out by now I think. What courses are you taking? Some professors order books through the Penn Book Center instead of the bookstore.

Do writing seminars usually do books (or do they do handouts)? All it has listed is the pocket style manual.

I’m taking; Sociology of Media & Pop Culture (SOCI-137-401), Architect and History (ARTH-001-001), Art & Architecture of Ancient Egypt (NELC-068-401), and Astronomy. My astronomy book is out, but all the others still say that no book has been assigned to the course yet. I guess I can ask my advisor…

If there is no textbook list for a course on the bookstore website, that means your instructor is not using the bookstore for the course. They could be using Wharton Reprographics, the Penn Book Center, Campus Copy Center or another form to disseminate he info. Don’t worry about it until the semester starts. Then you can get all of your books.
