do we wait until we go to school to buy textbooks, or do we start buying them now?

You can buy now or wait for welcome week. However, I checked Amazon prices already and they're actually more expensive than buying from Cal store used.

that's not true... i saved $100 buying from amazon on just one class... (r44)... you should research a bit before you buy

For my textbooks that I looked on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, new and used, it was the same price or more expensive than buying new or used from Cal. But it could depend on the seller (used) and also on the subject.

I just bought all my books off Amazon. I paid the the same (or less) for new books as I would have for used books through the student store. And I got free shipping because my order was over $25 and I ordered them all through amazon itself, not sellers on Amazon. I think I saved about $60 and got new books instead of used ones. Im content.

easymack63,

that's exactly what I plan to do coz u can't beat free shipping. I'll only save around $50, but I'll take whatever I can get. No taxes too right?

Anyway, anyone knows where I can find out which books I really need instead of going to the Cal bookstore? I tried online at bkstr.com but I can't find what I need for Nuc Eng 101.

Actually, they are beginning to charge taxes if you live in California. Blame the State Legislature.

I just checked to see if they'll charge taxes on my order, and it says "Estimated Taxes: 0.00." Woo hoo, no taxes yet. Buy, buy, buy!

Awesome...lucky you! :) HP was going to charge me taxe if I ordered online and Amazon was going to do the same for the computer. I guess books are still exempt.

You know, I love shopping online to get away from Calif sales tax (esp. up here in Northern Cal where it's 8.5% depending on which county). It's an added bonus when shipping is free and you find a better price for what you want. That's why I find the best deals on whatever on www.mysimon.com. A lot of times you can find that something for less with no tax and free shipping. Sweet :)

I think I've never paid sales tax when ordering from Amazon. I've bought kitchen stuff, printer cartridges, books, etc. Hmmm. Are u out of state? You would think that by purchasing something big like a computer one would get free shipping.

No, I live on California. Maybe I'm hallucinating about Amazon charging taxes. It may be just HP and Toshiba.
