Textbooks

After comparing the prices off the site recommended by Case to buy textbooks, i learned that most of the books cost around 100-150. Does anyone have any advice where i can buy books that will be at a more reasonable price? I've already tried amazon and half price, but they are the same pricing as the Case website.

*Also, when should we have our books...the first week of classes?

Thanks!

The Book Swap takes place the first week of classes - Monday is a viewing-only day, and Tuesday-Friday you can buy textbooks. You can also search through the online database: http://bookswap.case.edu/

Prices are almost always cheaper than the bookstore. It’s very easy to find textbooks for intro-level classes that a lot of freshmen take. The one caveat is if there’s a new edition - check with your prof to see if the old edition is okay to use (usually it is).

I’m not sure if they take forms of payment besides cash or Case Cash, so I would be prepared for that.

As for when you need your books, it’s okay not to have them for the first week or so, but by the end of drop/add you should probably have them. Professors are usually understanding about waiting for books to ship after you buy them online, and you can always borrow them from the library through OhioLink.

Good luck in your classes this year! :)

i get most of my books from half.com

you can find almost every book you need for a fraction of the cost of a new book. the bookswap is nice but has a limited quantity of books, especially for some of the small classes.

you can actually check what books they have by going to the bookswap website. bookswap.case.edu

Buy used and previous editions.

I almost always used amazon or half.com. I probably should have used the book swap more, but I hate the uncertainty of knowing whether or not I’m going to be able to be one of the ones to get that book.
