So after choosing my classes I went into the online Penn Bookstore to see what textbooks I would be using for each class, because I want to order them somewhere else. From what I can tell though, they don't even give you the book title and the ISBN that they list can't be found on any other website. Has anyone else had this problem/knows what to do? Thanks!

Most of the books can be pretty easily found on other websites. What class and textbooks are you referring to? Some classes like language ones may end up requiring more obscure stuff.

I have this issue with Math114’s textbook (Stewart 2010, Publisher: Cengage)

Okay…I think the problem with that book is that it is a new edition. Most people are still using the 2007 edition, which is what we used last academic year, so there might be a bit of a lagtime before most people start selling it.

I have a question concerning the Chem 022 textbook MOLECULAR BIOLOGY OF
GENE. It says that it is a required package. Does that mean that something is packed additionally to the book so I should order it through the bookstore? Or can I just ignore this wording and am free to get the book on my own instead?

Hahaha…well okay…for Chem 022, the textbooks are “optional” to a degree. Like…you probably should buy the non-textbooks, like Freakonomics is probably in there just because they are interesting. The textbooks serve more of a reference for college in general rather than anything that needs to be meticulously studied to do well in Chem 022.

You will see what I mean once fall semester kicks in.

How about Biology 121? The syllabus at Biology department lists the textbook as Biology by Brooker 1st edition. Amazon has the book used for around $25 but Penn bookstore list the book with ISBN that is not found anywhere (I think it is custom), the price would be $90+ new and $70+ used.

penn intouch => buy textbooks (next to thumbnail of your schedule) => ISBN list

^penn intouch => buy textbooks (next to thumbnail of your schedule) => ISBN list

We did that, it said ISBN: 9780077362829 for Biology by Brooker. The ISBN gets no match when searching on various bookstore like Amazon etc…

ok that is because it’s a custom package

schedule -> biology -> syllabus -> required texts. Now you search it and find the ISBN.

Best tactic: wait until class starts so you can ask professor directly. You won’t need the book at beginning anyway.
