Thacher Announces Its New Head of School - Blossom Pidduck - First Female Head and Alumna

This is exciting! After a nationwide and thorough search, Thacher’s Board went to one of its own! I was hoping this would be the decision! Blossom embodies the School’s ethos is so many ways: brilliant, curious, practical, warm-hearted, lover of the outdoors, dynamic, dedicated to the Thacher community past and present. She will be following legendary Head Michael Mulligan and she will no doubt blaze exciting new trails for the School. This is outstanding news…

Blossom has been the assistant head of school since 2016 and director of studies since 2013 at The Thacher School. Previously at Thacher she served as dean of faculty (2011-2013), English Department chair (2005-2011), and assistant director of admission (1997-1999). She has taught English at Thacher (2004-present) and at Viewpoint School in Calabasas (1999-2004). Blossom is a graduate of Thacher, CdeP 1992, and of Amherst College, BA cum laude in English and American Studies, 1996. She is a graduate of Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education with a major in teaching and learning, 1997.

Excerpt from the announcement:

“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Blossom Beatty Pidduck CdeP 1992 as the ninth head of The Thacher School. A rising star, Blossom is a collaborative leader, an extraordinary communicator, and a gifted teacher with a lightning-quick mind and a bountiful sense of humor.”

Sounds well qualified. Must say, her name sounds like a J.K. Rowling character.

I had an Aunt Blossom. She was great. Not my great-aunt but my great aunt. I also know someone whose mother was named Blossom, and by all reports she was great too. It’s lovely to hear of a younger person with the name. I have a very old-fashioned name, myself, and I’m always pleased to encounter someone who shares it. We were all named for our grandmothers.

Nice to see them hire an alum

This just added to the appeal for DD!
