After spending 400 dollars on flight ticket (SFO<->LGA)

I was so desperate to find cheap places to sleep

All the hotels in NYC costed about a couple hundred dollars per night.

BUT
I found this hostel that'll charge me only 17 dollars per night

Hooray~!!!

(Thou I'll have to share the room with 4 strangers.. Oh well, that's what NYC is lol)

where?

i'm desperate as well. i just spent 500 on plane tickets, and i'll be staying with my uncle who lives in queens, except it's kind of a long way from manhattan. unless i can find cheap hotels, i'll be staying there

does anyone know the easiest, fastest, and cheapest way to get to Manhattan from Flushings, Queens?

It's "Flushing," not "Flushings" (location of Shea Stadium-where the Mets Play).

By car, the fastest route is probobly down Queens Blvd., across the Queensboro (59 Street) Bridge, and then down 2nd Ave to 3rd Street.

By subway, you'd take the purple line (7) to 42nd Street Station (Times Square), then transfer to 34th Street (Herald Square) Station via the yellow line (R,N, or W). From there, take the orange line (B) all the way down to 4th Street (Washington Square) Station.

I'm sorry, i dont live there so thanks for the correction.

and also can you give me public transportation, i'm from LA, so i wont be driving anywhere

No problem, I live in Chicago, actually. Spent last summer there, and many of my relatives live there. Check the post above - I've added subway info. Here's a map:

i'm from sf too
anyone know of cheap plane tix?

Compare fares on Travelocity, Orbitz, Priceline etc.

it seems pretty late for tickets... at least for me. they are up to over $1000 from hawaii. :(

I used one at www.united.com

it was 394 dollars including tax.. Saturday leave, Tuesday coming back

also getting from queens...you could just at the times square station transfer to the yellow and take it to the 8th street - NYU exit. That also works.

The subway ride from Flushing to Manhattan will be fairly long just to warn you. Flushing is pretty far away.

Some nasty restaurants around there too.

Yuck yuck yuck.

Nice area besides that, though...

Just to let you know, the hostel you are staying at isn't in the "best" area. I personally like Harlem, but it's not that safe at night.

Are you guys going for Sat, Sun at the Square, or the CAS reception? Just a thought. o.o
