Thank You Alumni Interviewer Extraordinaire (Long island)

My son has finished all the alumni interviews. He had the worst and best of experiences.

School X a top 5 school had an alumni who works at a school district and forgot about the interview with my son. My son waited and waited and e-mailed the alumni from school X. They never disclosed their conflict working at a district that had other applicants for school X. They cut my son off after about twenty minutes and they had some other engagement.

The best was Harvard. Carolyn had the most enthusiastic alumni and she made home made cookies. In Carolyn I could see what makes Harvard special. She made my son relaxed before the interview. She had more alumni volunteers then they needed. I wish every school that runs interviews would follow what Carolyn does. She sat and talked with the students before their interviews and with the parents while their kids interviewed.

My son’s school has a Harvard Accept in EA so expect they will not accept another. I wanted to let others know Carolyn was special. By the way Carolyn makes real good cookies.

This is a really sweet tribute! And I’m truly glad to hear that your son had such a positive experience.

I think it is wise to avoid evaluating schools based on interview experience (or tour guide personality, etc.). Kids do this but as parents we can try to have some influence, however minimal

That said, sounds like a cozy experience. Not sure who Carolyn is and why she is baking cookies, but nice…
