As many seniors are in the thick of the college process, and with ED/EA decisions coming soon, I’d like to reflect on how much I’ve changed since first downloaded the CC app, and I’d personally like to point out the most important bits of information I’ve gathered from the posters here.
I came in as a pretty marginally above average applicant for state flagships, and now I have scores and the guidance that will hopefully make me semi-competitive for some top 30 universities!
•College admissions at selective colleges are often crapshoots, and all you can do is put yourself in a position to HOPEFULLY get in. Be unassuming and don’t get your hopes too high, but still cling to a little chance; it’ll keep spirits as high as they should be and your mental health will be unwavering come decision day. Life goes on.
•Do what makes you happy, even if it doesn’t seem advantageous (at first). If you’re a superstar, it doesn’t matter how unconventional your passions are, you’ll find a way to shine. Never join something because it “looks good”, or start a “hobby” that is pain inducing in hope of adding one more activity slot to your common application. Have a good time, dabble in some interests that aren’t fully developed, and dive deeply into whatever begs at your attention most intensely. Colleges can see through the facade that teens well-read in the game of collee admissions throw up. Have a good time and work hard while doing it.
If any of you would like to share some important information you’ve gathered over your college process, or over your years of helping us youngsters on here that’d be awesome! Thanks a lot to all the CC users!
