My daughter really wants to give a small gift to her professors who wrote her letters of recommendation in addition to a thank you note. In high school she bought them some college swag items (mug, pen). All I can think of is a gift card from a local establishment.
The nicest thing she can do is a letter-- not an email- expressing thanks for both their recommendations AND for whatever mentorship, inspiration, guidance, intellectual journey, etc. they’ve provided for her.
professors keep these letters for decades- and very few students take the time to write them!
Hmmm, I’ve never received a gift for a recommendation letter and I don’t know how I would feel if I did. I think my reaction would be, “save your money for grad school!”
The nicest things I’ve gotten are letters of thanks and follow ups letting me know what the student is doing. Those are always appreciated.
I agree. A letter would be best.
Thanks, she was definitely writing a letter and really wants to deliver in person, if possible, especially to one who she has never even met in person. She’s only has one acceptance (and no rejections), but feels like she wants to thank them ASAP. I’m sure she will also let them know the outcome.
A letter as stated and 10% of all future earnings.
