"Thank You" notes for alumni interviews?

I've had about three interviews with three different schools over the last three months, and it seems that it's about time to send thank you notes. However, I'm wondering how I can go about it, since I can mail them, considering that I've been communicating with them only through email.

Would a thank you email suffice? It feels a bit lazy.
What about a thank you e-card, too early-2000s? (I kid, I think.)

What are you comfortable with. A handwritten note is never wrong, an email is probably ok.

FWIW, my D sent thank you emails to alumni interviews, teachers where she sat in on classes and anyone else in the process who she met either one-on-one or in a small group. She didn’t send notes to people from large presentations…
