Thank you notes for declining and surveys

My D has gotten a few of these, the surveys offering the possibilty of winning itunes cards or money. These surveys must generate some useful data, but any theories about why the school would take the time to send a note saying "sorry you aren't accepting our offer and best wishes"? They also say things like "if we can be of any help in the future don't hesitate to call". I'm thinking of saving these in case things don't work out. Any thoughts?

out of the three colleges my daughter turned down and sent a polite no thank you to, one of them sent such a survey.
It was Simmons College in Boston.
The survey is sort of mute because it asks questions that one could not answer without having attended.
However, they did offer to keep her application open for one year , should she change her mind.
Maybe I am naiive, but I was impressed by the follow up.

Among other things. one outright asked my D how much merit money would have made her decide to attend.

Vanderbilt sent me a survey...it took forever.
