Thank You!!

Way to go, @bisouu! Debt free is like winning the lotto, eh?

My daughter will now be able to head off to NYC after graduation and not have to worry about paying back loans…it is like the lottery for sure!

I am glad you guys have formed such a close community! I am also in a Facebook group - our kids graduated from high school in 2010. When my son was hospitalized for over a month last spring, they banded together and bombarded me with cards, candy, gift cards, etc. I had never met most of these people! It really blew me away.

@bisouu we hope to be in the same debt free boat in 4 years. With any luck our D’s small college fund will instead become her nest egg when she starts her life. Nebraska Wesleyan really came through for her with academic and departmental scholarship awards. Her perfect fit is also perfectly affordable. (sounds lame, but I’m sticking with it!)

@MaineLonghorn what a nice story. It is amazing how supportive people on this group have been. It has made this whole process incredible. Even though I say It has been crazy when I sit back now that decision is made I wouldnt trade a minute of it. It gave us some quality time with our son that I don’t think w would have had if he was going into a different major.

Credit where credit is due. This year’s students and parents both here and over in the theater/drama forum were a particularly entertaining group. Thanks for the distraction during my non-theatre son’s process… which is still on going… and going, and going… ;-)

With any luck the food won’t be ready when I get to Chili’s and I can wait in the bar with a margarita. Wait - am I on the right thread?

@mainelonghorn great story. These are people with a heart. Nice photo of your puppy dog, BTW. I’m a sucker for dogs.

Entertaining kids come from entertaining parents, I say. Wouldn’t this make a terrific musical?..

@halfolkum. Let us know when his decision is made. Hope it comes soon for you

@halflokum - Not USC?

Undecided… closing in but undecided…

Is he going to be one of the 11:59 on April 30th people?

Wait! The date is May 1st, right?? I keep seeing April 30th and you’re making me nervous!!!

I have been under the impression that it had to be done BY May 1st (which would mean 4/30 at 11:59) but could totally be wrong. I have always known that May 1st was the date- and never paid careful attention to the specifics…b/c it was never my kid! I am NOT a reliable source on this topic! :-S

MaineLonghorn,
I had a similar experience (for different reason) and it was before the offshoot FB groups. Back in 2005, right after my D’s last college admissions audition, when she was in a terrible car accident and in very bad shape, the outpouring from CCers beyond simply ON the forum was incredible, particularly from people whom I had never met.

To all who are discussing how stressful this process is (and it certainly is), we went from finishing up the audition process to a horrible situation with D in intensive care and surgery and very injured all within a week, right when one would be happy the admissions process was nearing an end…a more stressful situation emerged. My D got some of her college acceptances, including her dream school one, while in the hospital.

cheeseheadmike…I do have a lot of posts! I have been on CC for 12 years and not simply just on the MT forum but many of CC’s other forums. I’ve participated as a parent and stayed on after both my kids got into college and have since graduated college (and one graduated from grad school). But I also have additional interest in reading and participating since my career field is college counseling. Hope that explains it some.

I think May 1 means 11:59 PM on May 1 and not the same time on 4/30? Is that not right? Yikes. If that 's not right can somebody say so because it could be the witching hour in our house before every thing and everyone turns into a pumpkin.

Like I said- NOT an expert…I keep reading “by” May 1st- but what does that mean? Anybody have more concrete knowledge?.

@halfokum - maybe you should check with the 2 schools you are debating to be sure if it is before May 1 starts or by the end of the day on May 1…

The schools say May 1st so @haflokum’s son and my daughter will be hitting “send” at 11:59 5/1/14!! I think I’ll feel more comfy with 4:59pm, though (just before close of biz).
