Can I get into, and which would be a good match:

UVA early decision?
Colgate?
URichmond?
Wake forest?
Lehigh?
Bucknell?
Tulane?
Penn State?
Pitt?

UVA out of state is a high reach. I’m sorry, but I just can’t see it happening. You have a good GPA, but your SAT is not great. Have you tried the ACT? If you got your test scores up some you’d have a better shot. UVA out of state is very competitive.

Of these, I think you have pretty good chances (matches or low matches) at Tulane, Lehigh, and Pitt. Penn State is a maybe, depending on the campus. Not sure about Bucknell and Richmond.

Colgate and Wake Forest are reaches. But it’s holistic, so you never know.

I’m surprised you think I have a greater chance at tulane and lehigh rather than penn state. Why is that? Especially since my residence is in Pennsylvania

Well, I was thinking that because I’ve heard Penn State Main Campus is pretty tough, even for in state. You may want to check out Naviance or ask your guidance counselor to see how other kids from your school did. Lehigh is a LAC, isn’t it, so they’re more likely to look at the whole picture. At Tulane, your SAT is exactly their 25%, so you’re not completely out of the running, especially with a good GPA and rank.

Actually your stats are very similar to my sons and he was accepted to Tulane with some nice merit aid as well. He also has half a dozen friends who were accepted to PSU Main with lower stats than yours. If you are seriously interested in Tulane make sure you complete the “optional” Why Tulane essay and attend any Tulane in your town events this fall if you can’t visit campus. Good luck to you!
