Thanks to everyone:

Well we made it. I found this site when my son was a Jr in HS. All of you have been incredible, your advice has been spot on. And I wanted to say thank you to all of you that pitched in.

My son applied to UM, GaTech, UF and UCF he was admitted to all of them. Every school offered him a scholarship except for UF my beloved alma mater. His selection process was quite intensive. He visited UCF once and did not like it his comment was just not UF. He loved Ga Tech, he liked UM but being from Miami UM never had a chance. They did offer him a scholarship that would have paid 80% but again it was not UF. So it was down to Ga Tech and UF at this point I bailed out of the decision making. I didnt want to influence his decision. So off we went back to Ga Tech. He was there for 2 full days. Stayed with a friend at the dorms. BUT his comment was that it seemed like all the students did was study and play video games. He almost decided on Ga Tech but thank goodness he again said Dad its just not UF.

So here we go to UF on the 17th to launch the best 4 years of my sons life. and to say that Dad is excited is an understatement.

GOGATORS!!!!!!!!! and thanks again

Hope he enjoys it! I know I will! I’ll be there on the 17th as well starting my journey. :)

We’ll be there on the 17th too! Go Gators! (Raise them up in the way they should go…gators!)

Gee—your post made my eyes tear up! We are a transplanted Chicago-areafamily (16 years in Palm Beach County) and we have come to absolutely love UF! My D graduated UF in 2006 and is applying for her masters for this spring (she can’t wait to get back!). My S is a sophmore this fall at UF and absolutely loves it. He had a great dorm experience this past year in Broward. I found this CC resource in 2005 and have received invaluable advice from so many great people. I would like to say thanks as well. Gator4ever, you will certainly relive some of your fondest memories in the coming years. That is so great. :)

Much like your son, when my son saw UF, it was love at first sight. We will be there on the 18th. Can’t believe that it has come so soon. Seems like just yesterday he was working on his application.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks for all the kind remarks. You know it was after I had graduated that someone came up with the phrase “Gator Nation” and that is exactly what WE have created.

We attended preview on July 5th and 6th. And I can tell everyone that the UF I attended has grown up and moved on, making it one of the top Universities in the Nation.

I am so proud to say: it’s great to be a FLOLRIDA GATOR

My son will be applying to the schools that they OP’s did (plus a few others). I was wondering about this comment from the OP. Did your son mean that he felt that the GaTech kids didn’t have much else going on socially? We are still in the discussion phase of which colleges would be a good fit for our son (who happens to love to play video games but we would like him to spend more time doing social things). My daughter graduated UF in '10 and she loved the school. I am thinking that UF would be a better place for our son “to expand his horizons”. Please keep us posted this year with how your son adjusts to UF.

seiclan my son is very dedicated to his studies. But he also enjoys hanging out with his friends and partying. He also enjoys being with and associating with the girls. And Ga Tech is not geared towards the ladies or social life.

While he was there he couldnt get any of the other guys at the dorm to do anything put play video games.

He did hear that the frat scene was pretty good at Tech. But his friend was not in a frat.

Good Luck to him on making the right decision. We just thought, no not thought we knew that UF was the perfect blend of social life and excellence in academics.

Good Luck to everyone! Ill be there on the 17th as well!
