Thanks!

Mom2collegekids has been providing excellent and free “consulting” services to all, and they are very detailed and helpful to those of us who are sending our very first kid to college, we just want to say, THANKS!!!

You’re all very welcome!

:)

mom2collegekids, you should be named mom2UAkids. You have been most informative and helpful for potential students and parents looking at applying to UA. You’re like the spoke person for them, they should give you commission for helping them sell UA. After reading your threads on UA, I’ve applied, hope to get a full-ride for being NHS. Thanks again for your most valuable help.

You’re very welcome. Glad to help anyone who’s interested.

:)

Best to you!

BTW…what major are listing on your apps. You may get more $$ for your major.

I want to major in Biotechnology but UA doesn’t have it. So I put down Microbiology. Tempted with Chem Eng. and Bio combo. I’m from California, ACT 33, GPA 4.25.

Well, if you quickly change it to any engineering major, you’ll get an additional $2500 per year ($10k total). I’ve heard that Mech Engineering with Bio is a good combo for your bio-tech interests.

What is your career goal? Med school? PhD?

BTW…Fab stats!!! Congrats!!! :)

Thanks. Graduate school or med school, still don’t know yet. Will look into the Mech & Bio comb.

Mom2collegekids - my son applied to Alabama last week, thanks to your info - we’re from southern cal. Thanks for your help!

Elizabeth…best to your son! :)

:)

Good luck to all of you!!!

Please let us know what you all find out.

:)

I think we’re going to go the bio/mech eng route for the biomedical engineering major.

Sure hope son falls in love with Bama at Capstone Day.

So glad all these so cal kids are coming. Looks like Bama is going to be as geographically diverse as Clemson, and a lot easier to get to!

I would also like to echo the above posters, you have been instrumental in my son applying,

Thanks

also, we are having a hard time finding the honors applications

mom’s the bomb!

b216

if already applied you log into mybama and the honors apps have a link on the left hand side

uh oh…so there is a different application for Honors College?

navarre: for UA there is… university honors, international honors, computer based honors programs (all requiring another essay!!). also separate app for fellows if invited. Know you are also looking at auburn and as far as i can tell there is no separate app for honors at auburn, but i did find a link to a scholarship page for college of arts and science there…if you need that link just post and when i get home tonight i’ll post the link or pm it to you

pssst: Mike can i uncross my fingers yet? LOL! it hard to type this way

Navarre…

Yes, there is a separate app for Honors…It’s super EZ to apply to UHP and IHP (one paragraph essay - REALLY NO BIG DEAL ) As long as you have the stats, you’ll be admitted.

To apply to CBHP or Felllows more is involved. Fellows requires an invite. Students with an ACT of 32 or higher are sent an invite. If your ACT is lower, than you can have your GC recommend you to the program. Essays are involved.

CBHP also requires an essay and a resume.

CHP and Fellows are the competitive honors programs - only 40 students selected for each program. Application process is more involved. If selected for an interview (in Feb), the school pays for transportation, hotel, and food (at least UA did in the past; I’m guessing UA still will do this.) Applicants to these programs must also apply to UHP first.

[Honors College - University Honors](http://honors.cbhp.ua.edu/index.php?page=uhp)

To apply…use link and follow directions into MyBama http://honors.cbhp.ua.edu/index.php?page=apply</a></p>

Mom - Thanks for all of your wonderful info and tips. My daughter had not even considered UA. With all the info I have gleemed from your posts about UA, I feel I already know the campus, policies, procedures and guidelines!

We are going to fly up in Feb to attend the University Day so she can get a feel for the campus. She currently is a Junior and has already qualified for the Presidential Scholarship (awaiting to hear PSAT results). She plans to apply to UHP and Fellows.

Mom - I also want to say thanks for all your info. You really should be on U of A’s payroll!

Shamrock…

You’ve got a smart D! Hope she makes National Merit!! :)

When you come for a campus visit, be sure to set up an interview with the Fellows Director, Dr. Jacqueline Morgan (very nice lady).

(I’m glad that UA has added the “Mrs” in front of Wellon Bridgers’ name. We made the mistake of thinking she was a man :frowning: )

Actually EVERYONE in the honors program admin is super nice and very helpful.

I’m sure that once you visit, your D will love Bama…
** An out-of-state student who goes to UA recently posted on CC that… “UA is recruiting for the best and brightest students nationwide. For many students, it is the money that first interests us in Alabama, we visit, and then we get hooked.” **
