Thanksgiving and Winter breaks flights home

Be sure to pick up a frequent flier thing for Southwest. I imagine by the time she graduates she’ll have flown enough for at least one free roundtrip. Also, if she hasn’t gotten it by the time she’s turned 21, be sure to update it once she does since after ten flights they give you four free drink tickets (not saying she has to be the one to use them, either ;)).

WHAT?! how is it that Racin has to be the one to tip off this 47-year-old to the drink freebies on Southwest! I need to see what is what with my frequent flier trips and southwest…I should have enough credits to treat my entire row to a round next trip out of Baltimore.

When you sign up for their rewards program there’s a little checkbox you need to fill in, otherwise you don’t get it by default. ;)

(Unless they’ve removed that perk since they switched their program from # of flights to a points-based system. In which case I wonder if the two free drink coupons I still have are good.)

Any CFA music school parents who can give advice on when those students are free to leave for Thanksgiving? My son is entering as a string performance major, wondering if those students are usually free to leave right after classes are done, say on Tuesday, or is it wiser to leave Wed morning? How much time is needed to get to the airport from CMU using Super Shuttle?

Also, we live in Connecticut, so it’s possible to fly direct, but unfortunately Southwest does not have direct flights. Any other airlines offer flexible tickets that are not astronomically priced? Do any students ever use Amtrak or the bus to get home?
