What is the percentage of students that stay in the dorm during Thanksgiving Break and is it safe to stay in the dorm? Is the dining hall open?

2) Providence airport <-> Brown:

a. How do you get from Brown to Providence airport? Shuttle? Bus?How to transport from Brown to Providence airport? (bus, …)?

b. How does one get from Brown to the Providence station to take the commuter line to Boston airport?

c. If staying at a hotel in Providence, how would you suggest getting How to transport from Brown to Providence station to Radison hotel in Providence airport?

3) How close can a cab or rental car park near Morris Lounge to move into New Pembroke dorm? Can you park or is it just a drop-off type thing?

Soo many questions since move-in is in a week!!!

1) I know some do, unsure of a percentage. It shouldn’t be less safe than normal - just follow the safety procedures you keep getting e-mails about. Dining halls are not open, so you have to forge around for food on Thayer (though I thought I heard something about being able to purchase a Thanksgiving meal from Food Services?)

2b) I’ve always walked to the train station, but you should be able to get a cab.

Brown operates shuttles to TF Green during some holidays, also there used to be the Airport Limousine which was $10 or so but idk if they’re around.

Train station to the airport: Walk/cab to Kennedy Plaza then you could take a RIPTA bus (free with Brown ID).

Staying for thanksgiving is fine, I did it for the last two years. I never even thought about safety at all. The campus is pretty dead (and boring).

They might drop you off near Thayer somewhere, that back near the lounge is a mess. You can park but keep in mind…it’s a mess. Be ready to carry some stuff around.

1) Safe to stay in dorms, but they will be very quiet. I am not sure how many people stay in dorms but the dorms will be very quiet (you will not hear people running to Jo’s or see many people). When you eventually see someone else you will probably become good friends. Like others have said the dining halls are closed. But sometimes student services / third world center will have a Thanksgiving meal. Also see if one of your friends will invite you over. I think I am going to goto Boston this year with my friends family (sure beats going 1,100 miles + 8 hours of plane riding home + 500.00).

2)a I usually take the airport limousine. The drivers are usually nice and have more patience because they are used to dealing with college kids. At the end of the year you will probably want to split a cab with your roomie or try to get on an early airport limousine because everyone is trying to leave at once you might miss your flight.

3) I’ve seen families parking there. I am sure it is fine as long as you are quick about it (i.e. not carrying one thing to your room and trying to decorate, then going back to car…)

Remember that you can pick up rental cars at locations other than the airport. Some rental car companies have office locations in downtown Providence (and some may be in the major hotels). For example, Enterprise Rent-a-Car has a location at 90 Weybosset Street, which is within walking distance of the train station.

Most likely, your child will befriend someone who is more local than California, and may choose to spend thanksgiving with them, if returning to Cal. is impractical. So don’t worry just yet about travel arrangements!
