Thanksgiving Break

I’m trying to make travel arrangements for DS. When are the students dismissed for Thanksgiving Break? Is it Tuesday at 5:00 pm or Wednesday at 5:00 pm? I have some conflicting info here…

Tuesday at 5. No classes on Wednesday, Thurs, or Fri.

Thank you for clarifying. And if DS is lucky enough to get the football ticket package B, when would you suggest him flying back to BAMA? Friday night?

Yes, Friday night would be best but Sat early morning could work too if he will arrive early enough. Game will most likely be at 2:30 central. So he’d need to arrive in BHM by 11am at the latest.

Just remember no Univ shuttles will be available so he’ll need to arrange other means of getting back to campus from the airport.

Thanks casinoexec. I am searching for the thread that discussed the new buses running from Birmingham to Tuscaloosa and can’t seem to find it. I wonder if that would be an option to get him back to Tuscaloosa?

Here’s the link to their website.

Looks like they have an 8:30 am bus that would work. The 11:20 would work but would be cutting it close. He’d have to sit in the upper deck most likely but he’d probably be in the stadium in time.

Thanks…now to check out the flight times!

One more question. If he has a class that meets from 5-9 pm on Tuesday, that class would be cancelled, right?

Yes, whatever time the cutoff is then any class after that is canceled. And depending on your sons schedule he could possibly miss his Tue (and even Mon) classes if he wished. You just have to make sure no tests are scheduled that week. If going that route you’d be better off waiting until after classes start to make the flight plans though just to be sure.

He will be flying Southwest. So, I guess I could plan assuming classes will not be missed and always try to change the flights later.

Southwest isn’t selling tickets that far ahead. I was trying to look for H & I to go down for turkey day &/or Iron Bowl.

FYI…Southwest’s schedule for the holidays went live this morning.

Yes, buy now assuming he WILL have to go to class that Mon & Tue and then if he finds out for sure he has no tests those days and he can afford to miss one class each then you can always change that departing flight. You’ll probably even get some travel fund $$ as the flight will most likely be cheaper.

I would think the game would more likely be a primetime night game. Is that usually not the case with the Iron Bowl (I’ve watched it a bunch but never paid attention to when it starts).

It’s usually a 2:30 (central) start since CBS has first pick of games and that’s their time slot.

If there is a better game then they could pass us up and we’d fall to ESPN which would be a night game. This year the only other game that day that I could see them picking is LSU - Arkansas. It will just depend on what game is more meaningful and who CBS thinks will draw the highest rating.

I wouldn’t fly in that morning - out of fear of delays, etc.

I think students will be heading to the stadium quite early that day to get better student seating.

Hey Casinoexc - just saw your post about no classes on Wed, Thurs or Friday Thanksgiving week. The calendar on the ua website says the holiday is only Nov 22 and 23 (Thurs and Friday)

[Fall 2012 Academic Calendar | The Office of the University Registrar - The University of Alabama](http://registrar.ua.edu/academics/academic-calendars/fall-2012-academic-calendar/#tab=tab-1)

I already booked D’s flight for Tuesday evening, so I hope they have Wednesday off!

If you look ABOVE that line, you’ll see that there aren’t any classes on Wednesday.

the reason the next line is written the way it is, is because it is a work day for UA employees. Nov 22-23 is THEIR holiday. Students’ holiday begins a day earlier.

PHEW, sigh, relief … thanks M2ck
I should know to always trust the CC’ers
