Am planning on making a plane reservation for D to come home over Thanksgiving break. There are no classes beginning Wed. Nov. 21, so I am looking at a flight that leaves St. Louis Tues. Nov. 22 after D last class. I'm just wondering though, do most students leave prior to that and miss class on Tues. or even Mon. & Tues. or should we just plan on the Tues. afternoon flight? Thanks!

Anytime after her last class on Tuesday. There are shuttle rides to the airport. I'm sure Residential Life might have the schedule for the shuttle.
You have to sign up for the shuttle, or D can take Metro (with other kids-not alone), or a cab ($25).

Last year, we made airline reservations for my S to leave Wash U after his last class on Tuesday. Then the week before Thanksgiving, his Tuesday classes (and even some of his Monday classes) were all canceled, so he wished he had made plans to leave earlier. Not sure exactly what to do this year, but need to make the reservations soon.

None of my classes was canceled before Thanksgiving break. Definitely wait until Tuesday evening to fly out, because a number of my teachers got pretty offended that people would knowingly miss their class.

do most students take a break and go home in between the start of classes and thanksgiving break? Are there any holidays in between at washu?

There are no breaks that I know of before Thanksgiving. We live in CA, though, so we're not flying him home any more often than the big breaks anyway. S told us to time the Thanksgiving trip to as close to end of last class as possible --- last year we left some "hang out" time and he said no one was hanging out. The dorm cleared quickly after the last class.
