Thanksgiving Break

So, it says that breaks starts at 1:10pm on 11/25. That is a Wednesday.

So, how does that work with classes. My D will just go to whatever classes she has on Wednesday that end before 1:10pm?

How long should I allow for her to get to the airport if she flys from:

Ithaca
Binghamton
Syracuse

How easy is it to get to those three airports?

Right now Syracuse is the cheapest flight, but only slightly better than Binghamton so how much does it usually cost to get to each airport?

I can see now that the next four years of making flight arrangements is not going to be very much fun.

“My D will just go to whatever classes she has on Wednesday that end before 1:10pm?”
Yes, I believe that’s correct.

It would take like 15 minutes to get to the Ithaca airport and about a hour to get to the Syracuse airport. Not sure about the Binghamton airport.

Your D could have someone she knows drive her to the Ithaca airport or could take a bus or taxi. For the Syracuse airport, you could use Ithaca Airline Limo ($110 round trip :open_mouth: ) or sometimes Cornell will have their own bus service to Syracuse around the holidays that is much cheaper.

Usually I choose to go to Syracuse. More inconvenient, but in the end, usually cheaper.

I have been criticized for posting this…I would wait until your kid knows the schedule before you make any travel arrangement, your kid may be able to leave early or come back later depending on when she has prelims or projects to be turned in. Sometimes by leaving early or coming back late could save you a lot of money and would make your daughter’s travel a lot easier. My daughter would usually speak with her professors first to make sure they are fine with it.

It will take more than an hour, perhaps an hour and a half, to get to Binghamton airport by car.

Binghamton is about an hour and 15 minutes from Ithaca and would be more inconvenient to get to than Syracuse (unless your D could find a friend going in that direction willing to give a ride).

It’s a pain in the butt to figure out travel arrangements for students who have to fly home. Make sure you carefully compare the cost of flying from airports other than Ithaca. When I had to travel for conferences while at Cornell, I would find great deals out of Syracuse. However, once I factored in the cost of transportation to and from the airport, it was less to fly out of Ithaca.

Yeah it is definitely a pain. Does anyone know how much Cornell charges for its Syracuse bus when they have it?

Tickets have been around $30 one way in past years to Syracuse. This is done through CornellTickets.com. The student assembly decided to subsidize this cost in 2007. ([Cornell Assemblies | SA / R. 23: Resolution to Implement a Spring Break Bus Program Between Cornell University and Syracuse Hancock International Airport browse](http://assembly.cornell.edu/SA/20070125R23)). This was mainly done for the Class of 2008, but I think it’s been in effect for most breaks ever since.

One can also go onto websites, such as facebook, and join groups where people post when they are driving to syracuse. You can pay that person a pre-determined fee to hitch a ride.

language classes usually wont allow you to leave early…

it’s best to play it safe and go by official guidelines…
