thanksgiving break

thanksgiving break according to the umich academic calendar is on Wednesday November 23 at 5:00. Does this mean if ur classes are done way before 5 that day you can leave earlier?

people leave after their last class...

Well, yeah. It's not like a bell rings at 5 and everyone rushes off campus at that moment. Setting a time like that means that any Wed. evening classes would be cancelled, just like Thursday & Friday classes are. Students leave when their last class for the week is over. For some people, that may be Tuesday.

How long does the break last? Is it worth going home if you're far away?

You get Wednesday night through Sunday off. Most people who are out-of-staters, like myself, go home during this time because unless you left during the 4-day fall break (that counts the weekend) than you hadn't been home in three months.

there will be plenty of people on campus who don't go home for TG. It gives you 3 whole days at home, and not necessarily worth it. Some students are from abroad, or are immigrants who don't celebrate. I'm sure you could have a good time in Ann Arbor too.

When are midterms? Are they right after that "fall study break" or tg break?

Could be both...or neither. It varies by class. For some classes, such as Chem 130 (General Chem) or Calculus I (Math 115) there are several midterms throughout the semester (3 and 2, respectively) and most classes have a final at the end (some just require you write a paper).
