I know, Thanksgiving is a long way away, but I have some miles about to expire, so I would like to book a ticket home (west coast) for D1 now. Since there's no school on Wednesday, is it a safe scheduling bet to put her on an early evening flight on Tuesday? Or am I risking her somehow missing a late class?

Thanks for any advice.

There are definitely afternoon classes that will be held on Tuesday. Perhaps even a few night ones. Some professors choose to cancel class, but definitely not an overwhelming number of them.

I would advise you to hold off and see what your daughter’s course schedule is. Who knows, maybe she will end up having only a lab on Tuesday (which probably wouldn’t be held) and then she could leave on Monday evening.

If you need to book a flight now, I’d book it for late Tuesday evening/night (giving her time to get to the airport) or Wednesday morning, but that day would be crazy busy to travel. Your daughter won’t pick classes until she goes to orientation in September, so it’s not feasible to wait if you have miles. I’d say go for ~7 or later. There a lot of 1:30-2:45 and 3-4:15 classes on Tuesdays, so she’d have enough time to get to the airport. Plus, most professors would be understanding if she explained the situation beforehand and made up the work from that class before she left.

My son had a Tuesday evening class that really wasn’t skippable, he took his bag to class and went straight from their to the train station. It wasn’t over till 5:30. This term he has one that lasts till 5:45 on a Wednesday.

A later flight is looking good. Thanks, everyone, for the advice.
