Thanksgiving?

Since home is a too far away, our son will be staying at Swarthmore over Thanksgiving break. Sharples offers a box lunch for Thanksgiving dinner. Does anyone have any suggestions for other choices? A take out or delivery dinner, open restaurant within walking distance?

Thank you.

Here's a Google Map with all the restaurants on the Baltimore Pike, most of which are within easy walking distance:

Google Maps

Or, he can go 3 stops outbound on the train to downtown historic Media which has a row of restaurants, also indicated on the map. He might want to round up a friend or two and do that.

Or take the train to Phila, go sit at the sushi bar at Morimoto and order a couple of appetizers to sample with friends. I'd give up turkey dinner for a plate of Morimoto's rock shrimp tempura!

Does he want Thanksgiving turkey dinner or something else fun? Lot's of options.

If he's looking for classic fancy restaurant Turkey Dinner with all the fixins, I'm guessing that Towne House over in Media may be that kind of place. Outback Steakhouse up on the Pike probably puts turkey on their menu for Thanksgiving. I don't know what Bertuccis does.

Looks like the students cook a big traditional Thanksgiving feast over at Mary Lyons. This would probably be the ticket for your son!

Pays to read the Daily Gazette!

It also appears that the Swarthmore Interfaith council does a Thanksgiving dinner over in Bond -- the listing for last year was for Saturday night.

Also, the African American Students Society (SASS) does a traditional Thanksgiving dinner open to everyone on campus. Again, Saturday night in previous years.

So, he could do that really good Indian restaurant over in Media on Thanksgiving and get his turkey dinners on campus Saturday!

Here is the schedule that Sharples posted on the dining services page.

Lunch:
Thanksgiving Lunch served 11:30-12:30
Dinner:
Box Dinner, please pick up during lunch hours

I interpreted that to mean they were making a Thanksgiving Dinner mid-day and then allowing the students to take a boxed dinner with them for the evening meal.

Swatmom:

That's how I read that, too. Probably turkey dinner at lunch at Sharples.

I'm guessing that any of the student cooked dinner events (Mary Lyon, Bond, SASS) would be a lot of fun, too. A whole bunch of college kids cooking turkey dinner would be pretty entertaining!

I learned how to cook buffalo chicken wings from a bunch of Harvard students.

I would definitely suggest going to the ML dinner - I live close by, so I'm always home, but I've heard from many people that it's a really fun, delicious, and community-building experience to go. :D
