I visited UCLA on Friday, and while I feel that it is a nice campus, I didn't have a "yes, this is it, this is where I belong" moment. I wanted to attend LA since high school and I didn't think I would feel so neutral?/eh about the school. So I was wondering, does that "aha" moment happen instantaneously or is it like a gradual process where you slowly fall in love with your school? Or is it even real? I would appreciate hearing about other people's experience with their schools :']

I’ll share my experience with UC Berkeley. I visited the campus as a freshman in college when I was attending a CSU. I didn’t have a very good first impression and I didn’t really give it a chance to feel the campus life, culture, and what it really has to offer. I got accepted to Cal and I took a tour a day after I got accepted, and boy was it completely different. I was more keen to observe the traditions and culture that was really appealing to me, and the campus itself is also very nice as well. I fell in love with Cal, which is why I decided to spend my next 2 years there. Go back to UCLA, give it another chance. If you have any friends there, ask them to take you around the school to give you another perspective on it. UCLA is a gorgeous campus, and there’s no doubt about that. But if you still feel neutral/eh about it, then come to Cal. :D

Yeah I plan on visiting again but it won’t be soon since finals are coming up :’[ I think part of the reason why I wasn’t so excited was that I stayed up late the night before to finish some work. Thanks for telling me about your experience :’] and lol I didn’t get accepted to Cal.

Did you do an official tour or did you just walk the campus by yourself?

i was at some transfer event, but i think the tour was like semi-official? because the tour didn’t seem very thorough

Sign up for a tour. Even if they are overbooked, go along anyway. They don’t care.

Assuming you don’t get a student who is boring, you will gain some great insight. Ask a lot of questions.

Ask about the hidden bridge and “tunneling”. See if they know. If you have the time, check out some of the history of the campus – it’s fascinating.

If you like music, consider that two of the Doors met at UCLA, and we’ve had tons of great musicians play at UCLA over the years.

Sometimes it’s just cool to go on campus on your own and just walk around and feel the vibe.

I had great time at UCLA last weekend. You just have to hang out with the right people who are students there so they can show you what to love about UCLA. I love the school. There is a high chance that I will pick UCLA over Berkeley. I’m a mechanical engineer major so this decision is really tough.

UCLA!! I’m doing CE and I chose UCLA over Cal.
