Does anyone know what they'll do to me if I forgot to do that dumb writing placement essay? I'm not taking a first year writing class this year, I plan to do it at the community college. I figure I'll have to write it eventually, but I just haven't had time lately (orientation is tomorrow :( )

Oops, too late, but for future surfers: I don’t think you can fulfill your writing class requirement at community college, and I don’t think the placement essay is optional.

I met my first year writing requirement with an english course at my community college. You can only do that if the CC course is good for EQUIVALENT CREDIT of a course at Michigan that satisfies the requirement, departmental credit is not good enough. If you can’t do the writing placement (I didn’t have to take it), I would email or call your adviser ASAP to figure out the ramifications. They work for you, these kinds of crises are part of what they are there for. :P

…

OP, i’m gonna try to leech off this thread if you dont mind. So I have orientation in a couple weeks but I too am taking a writing course over the summer, I won’t have started the course till after orientation however. Do I still need to do the placement essay? I probably should do it just to be safe, but I thought I’d ask. OP, let me know what they did to you for not completing it.

I never even took the so called “mandatory” chemistry placement test for engineers. I knew I had AP Chem credit coming in and they have to give me credit which fulfills my requirement either way. So they still tried to make it anyway and I told them “sure sure” and put my name on the test and turned it in blank…

I also got a 0 for the online math placement test that we are “required” to do before orientation. I knew they have to give me Calc BC credit either way.

So in conclusion, unless a placement test give you credit (like language placement tests for engineers), it’s useless, dont even bother doing it.

^ DUDE! you’re so cool
