That tense moment before you click on your admission status... EPIC POLL

I think I’ll have my Mom and Dad at the computer with me.

Yes. I’ll have to play something upbeat.

Laptop.

Probably. I had to make my Mom check my Smith College decision online. I couldn’t do it!

5pm. On the dot!

One by one. I only have two to check. Princeton first, then Dartmouth.

Neutral. I, fortunately, have two great schools (one will a lot of scholarship money) to fall back on. I will be okay. :)

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED: I will cry. Tears of happiness, of course!
9. WAITLISTED: I don’t know how I will react to this. Waitlists are a crapshoot. You have to wait until mid-summer to even hear back. I would have to turn down scholarships and acceptances to two highly regarded universities.
10. REJECTED: I will be upset initially, but I will soon be okay. It’s very comforting to know I have other acceptances. :)

“”"

No you don’t - choose the one of the two that you would prefer, accept the offer and put down the deposit. If you then get a place off the waitlist (at P or elsewhere…) you can withdraw from the place you put the deposit down at.

Annoying that you lose the deposit, but not the end of the world.

^You also don’t find out in the middle of the summer. To my knowledge you would hear back by the end of May (maybe someone else can confirm this).

Alone unless my parents are too anxious to wait for me to tell them! Hahaha.

Maybe the radio? Who knows…

Computer.

Nope, haha. I’ll look for myself.

Whenever I get around to it, but probably near 5 PM.

Opening each page/email in succession…

Optimistic, on the whole. I’ve gotten into a few great schools already, so I can’t really lose much. =)

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED- sweet!
9. WAITLISTED- expressionless/disappointed…
10. REJECTED- somewhat sad, but not too much so.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
ALONE. I think family and friends being there might not be good luck. Plus can you imagine 7 people all crowded in my dirty room watching me type into the computer? I don’t know how the people on Ivy Dreams did it. I would throw up.

Listening to song or not? Hell,no. Way to make yourself more nervous. Also any rejection= unlucky song. (Any acceptance= lucky song. That song will henceforth be played again and again whenever i am ready to meet a challenge. Let’s not activate my neuroses.)

Checking your phone or the computer? My computer. The screen of perfection is it for me.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not? Uh, I look myself. If I got rejected (God forbid), then I want to be the first to know. It’s one of my weird OCD things.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later? Hmm, I might wait till later. Bake cupcakes for myself to celebrate. I may also force my parents to take me out for dinner that night and/or buy me a Big Mac. It depends. I also might be completely kidding myself and might spend hours on CC, counting down the hours, minutes and seconds until the decision, with the password imprinted in my head. You decide.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one? One-by one. I might stagger the the ones I know I’ll get into vs. my unsure ones. I have 5 schools.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral? Very pessimistic. I am nothing special.,

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED-
in the 1st second- short death episode
2nd second- jolted back to life by realization of acceptance
next five minutes-yelling to my grandma downstairs
next ten minutes- calling mom and dad
next one hour- generally going crazy and touching all the orange stuff which I have developed a sudden fetish for.

WAITLISTED
Darn Princeton! That’s just like a rejection. I hate them. It’s too uncertain and its a gigantic waste of time.

REJECTED
Ceelo- Green’s “Forget You” plays in the background. I burn all my haphazardly collected orange stuff and start buying blue dresses. I go to Columbia and laugh at all those elitsist Princetonians. No one cares about them anyway ;)

BTW, ccuser, You can find out about the waitlist at any time. Morgan Simone (a C-CER)she’d been accepted off the waitlist in April. I guess it’s a good idea to ask how far up you are on the waitlist.

Probably with family

Nope, unless its like…nevermind

APPLE. ******

Hell no

Right then, right at that moment

One by one

Neutral

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED- ZOMG, hugs everywhere
9. WAITLISTED- O_O
10. REJECTED- lawlz

Alone. Seeing the decision with other people would be too much pressure. Also, I might unintentionally cry or scream expletives (I’ll do these whether I’m admitted or rejected)

Maybe. This sounds like a good idea, actually.

I don’t have a phone with Internet, so on a computer.

HELL NO

I’ll probably wait until slightly after 5. Maybe 5:10 or 5:20? Though it’ll be 2:00 ish where I live (I get out early on Wednesdays).

Cornell, then Princeton. Only two to check Wednesday unless Stanford’s is also that day. I also have Johns Hopkins tomorrow.

I’m a roller-coaster: one minute I’m convinced that I’m a definite admit, then an hour later I’ll be in the throes of despair because I’m convinced that I’ll be rejected.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED: Don’t know how I’ll react; “cardiac arrest” probably describes it pretty well. I can see the headlines now: “High school student dies of shock after being accepted to Princeton.”
9. WAITLISTED: This is the worst of the three. I want the college process to be DONE; a waitlist would just continue this horrifying ****fest indefinitely.
10. REJECTED: Disappointed, slightly relieved, dreading to tell anyone. If I don’t get into P, C , S or JHU (which is highly likely) I’ll end up at my mediocre state school. Oh well…

alone. with my parents probably right outside my door

nope. im a music lover but i’ll be too anxious to listen to anything

computer. my phone is unreliable haha

definitely not; i’ll be the first to look

i’d like to say a little after, but i’ll probably be anxiously waiting at 4 (central time)

how could you do it all at once? i can only take one blow at a time…

anxious. for dartmouth, not princeton. haha dartmouth’s my first choice but i’d still love to get into a wonderful university like princeton!

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED- excited! i’ll take it as a good sign for dartmouth which i’ll be checking 2 milliseconds after princeton.
9. WAITLISTED- annoyed. i want all of this over! id truly rather be rejected than waitlisted.
10. REJECTED- stressed out for the 2 milliseconds later when i check my dream school, and sad that a nice place like princeton didn’t want me

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
Alone, definitely.

Listening to song or not?
Haha no. Maybe afterwards to cheer myself up :P

Checking your phone or the computer?
Computer.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
No way, I want to see my decision first.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
Well I’m international, so 5 pm is 1 or 2 am on the 31st for me lol. Either way I usually stay up that late, so I’ll treat it like a regular night, do some light Facebook stalking, chat on msn and then casually head over to my college decision pages. No biggie :P

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
One-by-one. All the decisions (cough rejections) at once would be too much to take.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Pessimistic/neutral because I didn’t really put in a lot of effort and kind of just applied on a whim. (But probably secretly optimistic 5 seconds before viewing the decision!)

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED
Stare silently and happily at the screen and keep re-reading those wonderful words.

WAITLISTED
Still a total achievement in my books. I was also pooled (the UK equivalent of waitlisted) at Cambridge and later rejected, but I was pretty happy about not being rejected outright.

REJECTED
I will probably be a tiny bit disappointed, but I’m headed to the UK either way, so I’ll be good.

well this is my first official post !

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
alone…but not really. I’ll be at my restaurant , checking

Listening to song or not?
listening to my korean songs to calm my nerves

Checking your phone or the computer?
computer

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
I’ll be brave this time !

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
a few minutes after 5.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
rejections all at once will just kill me. cornell-- princeton-- columbia

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
ehh neutral. i dont want to get my hopes crushed.
What will your reaction be if you are:

ACCEPTED: OMG. speechless. looking at the acceptance a million times

WAITLISTED:whatt? oh well, its better than nothing

REJECTED: disappointed. angry. upset…

My family will be in the same room for moral support :)

no music… I don’t think I’d be able to handle it!

computer

I’ll check it myself

Probably slightly afterwards… I’m teaching piano lessons until 5:15, so definitely not right on time.

This is the only ivy I applied to… so, yeah. one by one. xD

ehh… I have hopes, but I’m trying to prepare myself for rejection.

ACCEPTED: run around the room, scream, jump up and down, call all my friends, hug my family, smile/laugh elatedly :D

WAITLISTED: awww… I’d be sad, but it’s better than outright rejection.

REJECTED: =(

Being alone or with friend/family for support?

By myself, THANK GOD

Listening to song or not?

Yeah, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons…no im jk, no musica para me

Checking your phone or the computer?

Computer!

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?

Yeah, since my dog will be the only one home he can have a quick sneak peak first.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?

I think 2:49 sounds like a good time to me.

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?

Why not all at once! I’m going on an emotional rollercoaster tomorrow anyways.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?

Totally, 127% neutral

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED- pleasantly surprised and quite happy for the rest of the week!
9. WAITLISTED- ehh whatevs! I got Rice, so I’m all good.
10. REJECTED- Rice University, HERE I COME!!

Alone. I can’t take the pressure of other people.

Probably silent.

Computer.

MYSELF!

Right at 2 pm (PST), thanks–I won’t wait any longer than I have to

One by one. One today (rejected, cries), two tomorrow. Then I’m done!

Neutral. Well, actually secretly hoping I get in, but after my shocking rejection today from another school, I’m feeling really vulnerable.

Accepted–I will probably start crying, have trouble breathing, shout it to my family, post on Facebook, and be happy forever.

Waitlisted–I will probably start crying and be bitter for a looong time.

Rejected–I will probably start crying and think my life is over and start thinking about my safety school a lot…

Being alone or with friend/family for support? alone

Listening to song or not? probably not, i wouldn’t think to put music on before i check…

Checking your phone or the computer? the computer

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not? absolutely not. for my eyes only.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later? exactly at 5pm

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one? i only applied to 2 ivies, so probably one by one

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral? pessimistic. i know i don’t really have a chance. but not pessimistic in a low self esteem way, just in an “i dont want to get my hopes up, even a little bit” way

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED- pinch myself?
9. WAITLISTED- i would be really excited, actually.
10. REJECTED- take a nap? do my homework? and definitely eat.

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
I will be working on the literary magazine with friends and my college advisor.

Listening to song or not?
Depends on what other people decide to do

Checking your phone or the computer?
Computer

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
That’s a dumb idea.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
5pm!

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
You can’t do it at once! Besides, Harvard is by email and Columbia is by a portal, so I guess one-by-one.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
Very pessimistic after my Stanford rejection! Yay!

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED
Call my parents
9. WAITLISTED
Ragequit
10. REJECTED
Oh ok… Go on with the magazine editing

Being alone or with friend/family for support?
alone, for sure.

Listening to song or not?
never.

Checking your phone or the computer?
computer.

Getting someone else to look at the decision before you do because you’re scared… or not?
never.

Finding out right at 5pm or waiting until later?
2pm for me, which is right after school ends, so once I get home, probably. might as well get it done with, haha. it was like that for stanford today ><

Checking all your schools’ decisions at once or one-by-one?
at once, since I’m not really hoping for anything, and I’ll just finish it there and then.

Optimistic or pessimistic? Or neutral?
neutral; admissions and these top schools can be so subjective, and while I’ll be pleasantly surprised to get into one, life will go on if I don’t, because it wasn’t meant to be.

What will your reaction be if you are:
8. ACCEPTED - probably scream for a bit, tell my parents, wallow in my good fortune
9. WAITLISTED - there’s still a glimmer of hope!
10. REJECTED - my friends and I are having an ice cream party tomorrow, since we were rejected from Stanford and will most likely be rejected tomorrow as well. after that, it’ll be between Rice, Northwestern, and Swarthmore.

Best wishes, everyone!
