man this is so true!!! question is, how to avoid this? shut your gut feelings up? _

LOL BOTTLES WTH

You know, CB is amazingly accurate… I took my three SAT’s all in this year (Jan, Jun, Nov) without much studying in between any of the tests, and though I felt better and better each time, my composite scores were 2110, 2130, 2120, which is all the same crap… I love colleges for superscoring though, cuz my highest three sections all come from different sittings LOL

They’re designed to be accurate. If you don’t study and increase your skillset, your scores will be more or less the same.

I thought I got around a 650 in math. Scores come in, I have a 530.

Meh, whatev. I got a 1990.

These statements are made by those who don’t understand the scoring. They think to themselves “I easily got 75% of them right. That’s the majority of the questions! I did pretty darn well!” without realizing that getting a top score means answering everything right save for a few careless mistakes.

haha I thought i got a 2100 and actually did end up getting one but not in the way i expectd
the writing wasn’t a surprise, 700, but the CR and Math were
I expected 800 or close in Math, got a 690, expected 660 or less on CR and got a 710 XD

after i took the test i guesstimated that i got somewhere between 2250- 2340

I got a 2350! :)

on the nov sat i expected CR 740 M 720 W 780

ended up with CR 740 M 740 W 690

I was SOOOO nervous for reading and math and was completely lax regarding writing. So when the scores came in, lets just say I was both very happy (reading and math) and EXTREMELY dissapointed (writing). It’s nice to know though that no colleges really care about the writing section. If you look at average sat scores in books and on the web, they dont even report the writing grades!

They do care about the writing section, but just not as heavily as m+cr.

Guys what can i tell you. When i think i did extremely well i really did. When i say i did poor i really did.People who take tests (not only the SAT) say they didnt do so well if they actually did well. There are other people who did extremely well, but say they hadnt prepared at all. This makes their friends think that peson is really smart…

Yeah, from what I’ve seen, those who find the test “so easy” miss the quirks intended to mess people up. Those who are cautiously optimistic about their tests and actually saw the difficult tricks usually do better.

well said, ephemeral.

The first time I took it, I thought the Math was hilariously easy and that I had 800. Real result: 780

The second time I thought it was hilariously easy again and was cautiously optimistic that I had 800. Real result: 780

Not true. My score went up 170 without studying, and I did the worst I could possibly do on the math both times.

Yeah, so I thought I screwed up reading. Turns out, no questions missed.

Thought I did perfect on writing. Missed one (but still 800).

Goes to show you that you oughtn’t to make predictions about test scores. It’s never done me a shred of good.
