That Time of Year... (Application Process)

For those of you who have already gone through applying to colleges and such and are currently attending college, how should one go about applying to colleges? Should they go through their counseling offices first to ask any questions about applying or should they just go all in? When do you believe they should start filling out the application and is there any particular order you would recommend (essay before everything, everything before essay, etc.)?

Don’t procrastinate - a lot of the information on the application can be entered easily and quickly, especially if you’re using the common app, but supplements will take a while to go through. Essays take a long time, so start early and give yourself time to write each one. Also, do not leave financial aid stuff until the end. Filling out those forms are painful and time-consuming.

What flamewire said. And by all means, get input from your counselor asap. I went ahead and filled out all of the easy stuff as soon as the common app went up and then started brainstorming ideas for essays and such then just start drafting, have those close to you look over them, and rewrite rewrite rewrite. It’ll all be over before you know it. Good luck!

Thanks to the both of you! Great advice, and I guess this means I should start filling out the boring stuff on the common app just to get it all out of the way.

Thanks again!
