that/which usage

<p>can someone please clarify the usage of that and which? does which require a clear antecedent? </p>

<p>this is an example out of the top of my head, but say my sentence was:
I was really hungry, which made me devour the cake. </p>

<p>can i use "which" in that instance? does which require a clear antecedent, i.e. "the fact that i was hungry" or something along those lines. </p>

<p>When you use a relative pronoun in that type of situation, the rules are very liberal. There does not have to be a clear antecedent.</p>

<p>“which” effectively serves as more of a coordinator (in that it indicates a logical connection between the clauses) than a pronoun, so your example sentence is fine.</p>
