The 2006 UCI Appeal Status Thread

Hi, if you appealed to UCI and received a response from them, please leave a comment. If you could also share you stats/reasons for appeals that'd be nice too.

As of now, im still waiting for them =/

regards,
ilovechocolate

Hmm...ilovechocolate, are you a transfer student (because of your other posts)? I thought that many of the transfer students didn't receive their admissions decision yet?

Well, to answer your question, UCs are not relatively fast when it comes to appeals. I remember appealing for UCLA in HS and receiving my response way past the SIR (and other) deadline(s), and was rejected. I appealed to CSULB (the only CSU that rejected me...ha?) in HS and was successfully admitted. I didn't go, but I received my response past the SIR deadline as well. For the most part I think schools want to see how many students they will actually have to accomodate before they can start admitting people who appealed. If you receive your response past the SIR deadline, they'll make special conditions for you, like sending documents ASAP or give you an extended deadline.

One of my friends talked to one of the admissions persons and she said that they recieved over 700 appeals and they are only thinking about accepting around 15 of them...just an insight.

good luck everyone

Wow, that's a huge jump. In 2003, UCI accepted around 200 appeals. Good luck on your appeals!

aerolite, I'm actually a Freshmen applicant =D

thanks for the heads-up

I sent an "Appeal to Closure" (I don't know why they call it that), for a late-application. I wasn't rejected, just applied late... like 03/24 late.

Even though someone has had my app since then, it still isn't "in the system" yet. I've been calling, but the main admissions office says that it "isn't in the system," so they told me to call someone else (i guess she handles the paperwork before giving it to admissions)... but she is NEVER there (always voicemail).

Is anyone "in the system" that sent in an appeal?

(i'm a transfer student, but the question goes out to anyone)

hey jas0n, what about in 2004? =)

I wish I knew =|.

yawns ...April 28, still no results! =(

have you called them to see if they "received everything" and asked about status?

I called the main admissions office and asked about my status... I was asked for my ID#, but since I am appealing just for a late application (not a denied admission), I do not have an ID. So, I was asked for my SSN, but they were unable to find it in "the system." I told the person that I sent my appeal about a month ago (next day air, ups--what a waste of money  )... I was forwarded to a different person... I think this person gets the material before giving it to the "normal" admissions (or maybe she is the person in charge of appeals?). Got voicemail, so I left a message.

She called me back a day later and told me that everything was received and it was under review. She said that there wasn't really a set date for notification, but they would get back to me soon with more info or a decision or something (she left a message on my voicemail--I was in class when she called).

The bottom line is that you should be proactive with finding more info... (I think the admission people like it when students show interest like that anyway)

"The bottom line is that you should be proactive with finding more info... (I think the admission people like it when students show interest like that anyway)"

hmmm in another perspective, you might annoy them by calling them since they have a lot of work to be done anyways. :P

"Admission Status: Not Admitted Fall 2006 - Freshman
Appeal Status: Received - Decision pending
First Choice Major: Physics; College of Letters and Science
Second Choice Major: Pre-Mathematics; College of Letters and Science "

It's Saturday, Does anyone know if Administration building/Admissions office works on weekends?

oh, sorry, I in **no* way* want anyone to annoy the guys over at admissions! That would be bad. But if you haven't received any feedback, then I suggest a phone-call.

Since I never applied (my appeal is a late application), I don't have access to a web status check or anything like that. Is your bottom quote from an online status check?

i myself found the phone number directly to one of the top-tier admissions officers, i was able to find out early that i was admitted. i called once a week, enough that she recognized my name :)

My friend just got his appeal status updated today. He got in. If you are waiting for your appeal still, it should be coming soon.

Sigh...I went online in my CADD class today and found out this morning. =/ I guess no UCI for me.
"We reqret that we were not able to grant your appeal. Your application is now closed."

Good luck everyone.

ilovechocolate: I'm really sorry to hear that. I know how it feels. Where are you going?

i know, it feels really terrible. My other options are UCR and UCM, CSU Fullerton/Poly Pomona. So, I think my next choice is to go UCR and then do the best I can, and hopefully, have a good chance at transferring. However, UCSB has not given me their appeal decision yet, and I'm quite concerned. It sucks even more to know that most of my friends are going to UCI, Davis, and SD =(

I definitely know how you feel. I personally would love to go to UCD. I found out I was well over qualified for any major BUT engineering so I was rejected. I've been finding some relief after researching about UCI though. Enjoy UCR. If you can't, fight for an early transfer after one year. I wish you the best of luck man, we are in around the same boat o_o. (Read the goods about UCR to help you feel better).

ilovechocolate, are you a freshmen or transfer? You can go to (or continue at) a CC and try again... is that not an option for you?
