Got my interview e-mail today... doing it on Monday! Eep!

how do you get an interview? I am an international student, do I fly to NYC or something?

^no, they'll find an interviewer in your area or they won't give you one, it isn't a big deal.

KQI, not everyone is that rich to fly to NYC just for an interview.. especially guys like me who need almost full rides to attend..

jhl, you're not the only one relying on financial aid...I depend on it too but my some of my teachers have convinced me that if a round-trip to NYC with the interview can almost guarantee my admissions, then it is well worth it.

haha.. yea.. but i don't think anything can guarantee admissions.. especially at Columbia where interviews dont seem to play as huge a role as places like MIT.. i dont think i'll get an interview because I doubt there's any Columbia alumnus here..

Where are you from?

The non-Puerto Rican Caribbean...talk about Columbia alumni I think I'm one of like 10 who is applying to Columbia from this side fo the world :P

is that a lot or not?

considering the caribbean has like 20 million people...ummmmm you tell me :P

good chance for you then..

Now that I've send my fin aid application.. there's nothing else to do except wait?

I had my interview today. It went really well, I think. It was really casual -- in a Starbucks -- and lasted around 35 minutes. We talked about the biggest extracurriculars I'm involved in, what I want to study, the reasons I want to go to Columbia, what teachers I've been most impressed with at my school, one thing I'd change about my school if I could, and probably some other things I'm forgetting. We ended up discussing the Core quite a bit, because I've taken/am taking some classes that are really closely related to the material covered in the Core, and taught in a similar style, which he got really enthusiastic about. ; ) It was the first interview I'd done. I was a little worried, but not very much, and it really was not a reason for stress. Who knows how much they count (if at all), but it at least made me feel positive about the whole thing.

Early December couldn't come fast enough...

Oh, and one other thing -- he didn't ask me whether I had any questions about Columbia, which I really appreciated because I didn't... have any. Probably just an interviewer to interviewer thing, but nonetheless.

Columbia still hasn't received/processed my secondary school report, but they got everything else... should I call?

How are you guys informed of the interviews? thanks..

It's up to the interviewer. My interviewer emailed me, but I know of other applicants whose interviewers called them.

Thanks a lot..

my friend who has applied ED, has a pretty good gpa of 3.85 uw and 1450 SATs, now hes trying to hook himself to columbia by mentioning the fact that he has arthritis, would u guys consider this a hook?

LoL... ::sighs::
No I don't think it's a hook.

I agree with truazn..I think Columbia need some one that is both intellectual and physical mature and healthy..I mean you can had some disease,,but you have to prove you are strong enough that can handle the busy life in Columbia.More importantly, you have to make good use of such experience. It is not special to be sick,I have to say..Applying to a college is a competition, and there is hardly no room for sympathy.

In fact, my experiece is a little bit like that of your friends....I used to be a leukemia patient (yea,,my experience seems much worse),and I have co-founded and led the most influential civilian marrow donor system in my country.(i am an international applicant).I am always trying to use my experience to help and inspire others...I wrote an essay about my experiece and my work in the organziation..In addition, I have to prove I am physically healthy..I lead my school tennis team to the state championship...(I am the No,1 player,,not very impressing, but really a great job for me)

My GPA is very high but my SATS is kinda common..I don't think I have a very big shot at CC,,but who knows...All we can do is trying to do our best...

I don't think such diesease is a hook,,Columbia has to be fair..It may consider that show you courage, but such quality is not decisive..I mean,,if you really want to impress, you have to do some other things..Only you can prove you have learned or Changed a lot from the disease,,or you should not mention it because It is not important enough to make you stand out.
