The 25 US Colleges that give the most financial aid, ranked

Thank you for posting this link. Was surprised to see Colgate University & Georgetown on the list and disappointed that Northwestern University was not.

Would be interested in seeing a list of “no loan, all grant aid schools” as this list doesn’t indicate percentage of loan aid versus grant aid.

P.S. I think this list is a bit misleading because it ,Student Loan Hero, includes financial aid in the form of loans, thus the most generous schools with respect to grant aid may not have made the top 25 (Northwestern, for example, is ranked #44 but I believe that NU financial aid may be all grant aid = no loans, although I am not certain about this.)

US News publishes a list each year based on “Least Debt” for graduates as well as “Great Schools, Great Prices”.

Great Schools, Great Prices list does not include loans, only need based grant aid in arriving at the lowest net cost schools. Separate lists are compiled for National Universities (50 schools) & for LACs (40 schools).

It’s just one more article to highlight some schools that are doing some good with regard to the cost. However these lists should come with a tag line “Read the fine print”, which would then lead us on a more thorough and investigative search.

The data don’t seem to be reliable.
Northwestern is more generous than Notre Dame based on their common data set 2017-2018.

First-time full-time freshmen
Item H2j (overall FA package)
Northwestern $50,668
Notre Dame $47,455

Item H2k (need-based scholarships & grants)
Northwestern $49,645
Notre Dame $38,673
