Wow, that's a lot of great schools, most of which I probably would never get into. However, since my first post I finished my second year at the local community college and applied to two colleges, Beloit in Wisconsin and Hiram in Ohio. Both accepted me but Beloit only offered me spring admission, which is something I really didn't want. So, I'm moving to Ohio in a couple of weeks.

Hiram is a good LAC that no one has really heard of. I'm a little worried because most of the students either adore it or loathe it but I'm excited at leaving for school...finally! Thanks for all the help. Has anyone else been to Hiram or considered it?

hey Night Owl... i actually live about 20 min from Hiram... yeah id agree with your assessment... two of my favorite teachers of all time went to Hiram.. its reputation is pretty solid around here.. its small... but you should enjoy it.. good luck

For CT, Trinity and Conneticut College both should be in front of UConn.
For NY, I would put Colgate, Hamilton, Vassar, URochester all in front of NYU.
For PA, Swarthmore, Haverford should certainly be in front of Penn St and probably CMU too. Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette all should probably be in fron to Penn St.
For MA, Williams, Amherst are both certainly in front of Tufts.

Cooper Union has such a narrow focus that it's really hard to try to compare it with those other schools and Vassar actually has a higher avg SAT (not in math).

mendota, i can understand putting swarthmore over upenn for undergrad in numerous fields, but i think top to botton from undergrad to grad, looking at all the programs and degrees offered, upenn is stronger than swarthmore

I think UPenn is stronger in more academic fields since it has grad school. UPenn is definitely better than Swarthmore as far as both under and grad are concerned. Swarthmore is a better undergrad school.

I am going to put down more than three schools for states in which I believe institutions are roughly tied in quality. I also must note that I feel uneasy grouping LACs with Unis but I'll do it anyway. My list is as follows:

I agree, I completely forgot about L&C. I'd put that as #2 and perhaps make Willamette tied with UO for the #3 spot. It does seem that UO should be on the list as well.
