Michigan tech is not better the MSU

^^ I agree, Michigan Tech is a nice school in its narrow field of engineering (notably mining engineering, which MSU and most U's don't even offer) – but it’s no MSU by any stretch of the imagination. Also, MSU has a better academic reputation than Albion, both within Michigan and outside the state, even though they are different types of schools.

Who was comparing Albion and MSU? MSU is a large research university and Albion is a LAC. I was just saying that Albion is clearly the second best LAC in Michigan.

California:

UC Irvine
UC Santa Cruz
San Diego State University

Drew--Hope and Albion are generally considered neck and neck as the #2 LAC's. If I recall, didn't you apply to Hope but will be attending elsewhere? Did you consider Albion or any other Michigan LAC's?

Yes, I applied and was accepted at Hope, MSU, and Wayne State. I decided to attend Bowling Green. I really like Hope but as an Athiest I found it would be kind of hard for me to attend. Hope's location is awesome though and it's English program is very strong.

Well I generally agree with most of your corrections, though this just shows how unknown plenty of strong LAC's are, I especially like your NC correction with Davidson getting on the list, though I'm just going to restate my NJ list as:
Princeton
TCNJ tied with Rutgers - New Brunswick

so...

I like Davidson veing bumped up as well, but yeah TCNJ needs to be on th NJ list. Personally, I'd put it ahead of Rutgers

I just can't think of Caltech as being one of the best colleges in the state because of its narrow focus. It's tremendously strong at what it does, sure, but it does not seem to concern itself much with anything outside the fields of science and technology. I would think the same of MIT, but they have mroe developed non-science non-technical programs and full cross-registration with Harvard and Wellesley available. Harvey Mudd has the other Claremonts.

I didn't know Oberlin took up two states (Indiana and Ohio). With that kind of growth they should top the rankings in no time.

I would think Kenyon would rank over Case & Miami. Case is very good, but it would be number 3 in the States big 3 privates; but you're right, Miami would clearly be the top public in the state. Anybody would list Ohio State over Miami is waaaaaaay off base.

Stanford
Berkeley
Pomona

Caltech is in a league of its own I think.
