So one of the essays I need to write is the 3 WORDS THAT DESCRIBE YOU BEST. I remember someone on here put three interesting words like "toaster, croquet, and WiFi" (those weren't the three words, but it was something unique like that)

Should I do something like that to stand out, or stick to three adjectives?

I do not think it appropriate for anyone (especially not us CCers who do not know you) to give you any advice on that.

Remember, though, using those three words does not just make one “stand out.” It also suggests that the person is bold, creative, iconoclastic, etc. Does any describe you?

Be careful! Some schools will give you advice right on their sites regarding what they are looking for in an answer.

Just the other day I noticed that one college said to use a sense of humor and be yourself, while another college, said do not be cliche or silly etc…

I would research carefully what the colleges environment is like and what kind of student they are looking for. Above all else, though I would only apply to a school where you can be yourself.

Perhaps you could get a cross poll of words that describe you by asking friends and family to describe you in three words. Write their responses and take it from there.

^^ And why the heck not? Which school does not have/does not like to hear things like “great research facilities,” “multi-cultural,” “flexible education,” “interdisciplinary curricula,” “good career outlook,” “variety of clubs,” etc. All you have to do is change the concrete numbers around a bit and use different proper names specific to each school, but come on, the gist is the same.
