Just for fun, which school is #3? Wharton, Stanford, or Harvard? Reasons? Do we need to look at both the MBA program and the Ph.D programs?

Any other potential contender for the #3 spot?

kellogg & wharton (tied)

the absolute rankings are arbitrary but i think the specialty rankings are more useful

[National Graduate Specialty Program Rankings: Interactive Table](http://bwnt.businessweek.com/bschools/graduate/08rankings/specialty_usa.asp)

I would say Stanford. But it it really doesn’t matter.

In terms of business school Ph.D programs, my impression is Stanford > Harvard > Wharton by splitting hairs, especially based on Ph.D graduates placement.

But for MBA, I don’t know for sure. In US-NEWS ranking, overall Harvard> Stanford>Wharton. But if we check the individual fields, it looks like Wharton > Stanford > Harvard.

Does anybody have cross-admit data for these 3 schools?

I have met several Wharton MBA graduates at my work. They are good, but none of them brilliantly good. Since I live in Philly, I have seen lots of my friends’ kids go to Wharton. It makes me think Wharton is not that hard to get in. I might be biased. But I have to admit that I would be very happy if my children can go to Wharton when they grow up.

^ You are correct that your antecdotal views aren’t all that relevant. I know HBS MBA grads that are weak, but that doesn’t change the fact that I would rank HBS #1. The fact is that none of these programs are easy to get into.

Most of the data indicates that Stanford is #2 and Wharton is #3, but it’s still personal preference. Given my industry, I didn’t even consider Stanford.
