Everyone has goals and ambitions that they hope to accomplish over a 5 year period.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
How will you get there?
I thought it would be interesting to hear what other peoples plans are for undergraduate, graduate, jobs, and anything of interest you hope to accomplish during the next 5 years.

Don't Judge.

I will be at UCLA law, come hell or high water, and hopefully in my 2nd year.

This isn’t what is going to happen necessarily, but more so what I’d like to see.

1 and 2 years from now: CSE undergrad at Davis, hopefully landing internships and doing research at some point in there

3: Work for a year to pay off any debt.

4 and 5: At a top 10 CS graduate school, but I’ll go to grad school regardless of where.

5+: Depending on how much debt I’m in, I’ll decide whether to pursue a Phd, MBA, or neither. If I get the Phd, I’ll attempt to land a research job at a private outfit or do research independently (this might be possible depending on what I specialize in). If I get an MBA or don’t get a 2nd graduate degree, I’ll probably start my own business. I’ll probably start a business even if I get a Phd.

And beyond: If I’m rich enough, emotionally stable and have a lot of professional freedom in my mid to late 30’s, I’ll make some babies.

Even later: I’ll invent technology allowing me to become an immortal cyborg. I’ll then proceed to rule over the world for all of time.

The tiltle of this thread made me think of Listener Project’s “My Five Year Plan”
http://www.myspace.com/listener
good band, but not the best version of the song…

Hmm, I will be in grad school, married (actually, that’ll happen this year), and hopefully either on the East Coast, or preparing to go there.

^ oh yeah, I’ll probably have a kid by then as well.

why ucla law school grimes rather than another law school

1-2 School

3 backpack through Europe

4-5 Work

^^ I like your layout. Now that I’m out of school, here is mine.

1 year: Get internships during the summer in Los Angeles or San Francisco
2 years: Finishing Undergrad at UCSC. Getting Ready for grad school.
3-4 years: Working on my graduate degree at UCLA in screenwriting. Continue to network in Los Angeles and build contacts.
5 years: hopefully have my desired occupation, in the film industry.

this is not true- “Everyone has goals and ambitions that they hope to accomplish over a 5 year period.”

That said…

I hope to be in philosophy grad school with funding in five years. I’m not sure if I want to teach after that, but I figure that five years of payed for living counts as a legitimate job in itself.

haha, I guess I should have said Everybody on here cause thats what I meant.

@DCSPORTSFAN: I’m a San Diego guy, so I’d like to stay somewhat local. A couple family members (my grandpa and great grandpa) went to Berkeley law, but I’d like to kinda do my own thing and the Bay Area doesn’t interest me. UCLA is a great law school and well worth it for the money. Also, I stopped by UCLA last Friday on my way back from work and there just so happened to be the commencement ceremeony for their law school going on. It was something else seeing those kids graduate, and that pretty much sealed it for me. I’ll probably apply to USC/Berkeley/ a couple back east, but I want UCLA.

I’ve learned not to plan more than 2 years in the future

variables change too much

^ yeah i like to give my self room to re-route…but lately i’ve been thinking like this.

3 years from now…working at a cultural resources management firm w/ my degree to pay off loans…save for grad school.
4 years from now…attend grad school
5 years from now…still in grad school

10 years from now… working at a museum or as a professor/instructor

i like this thread!

I see myself dating James Franco.

(we met while I was an undergrad at UCLA, turns out he failed his classes, but bribed the professors with a small role in his new movie. the scandal broke, the professors were fired, and he had to return to re-take the classes in order to really get a degree :))

I’ll be working for a political figure of some sort, maybe even a think tank if I get lucky.
