the 80 millionth "am i on the right track" thread - stanford!

^Um, Senior0991, I don’t know where you get the impression of Asians, but I can assure you that most of the Asians do not fit into that stereotype.

Back to the OP. I think it’s way too early to tell whether you’ll be accepted to Stanford. I can tell you, however, that many people who do get accepted at top colleges don’t plan out their high school years or extracurriculars just so that they appear to have an impressive profile. They just focus on what they love, and their achievement then speak for themselves. I can also tell you, from my personal opinion, that there is nothing impressive about your ECs compared to some of the other potential applicants I have seen, unfortunately. Browsing those CC threads can be an extremely humbling experience.

Oh by the way, like others said, projected SAT scores really don’t work that well most of the time.

I told you in my last post.

I never said this. Again, read my last post.

^ Coming from a high school that is at least a quarter Asian, I will have to say that Senior0991 is actually remarkably accurate with what he’s said regarding the stereotype. Maybe less so with the pre-professional clubs though. Replace that with orchestra, band, Math Team, Science Olympiad, or Debate, and that profile would fit a majority of the high-achieving Asians at my high school. (And, oh, well - the Asians at my high school seem to flock to fencing as a sport instead of tennis, but really - same difference.)

For the record, yes, I’m Asian.

Senior0991, I did read your last post. I was merely trying to say that Asians are a very diverse group, comprised of individuals of varied interests, and it’s actually kind of unfair to catagorize everyone into the same stereotypes. It’s an assumption that is not always true. Just as when some people see others being accepted to top colleges with low scores then immediately jump to the conclusion that they must be URMs, people make such assumptions about Asians without knowing the individuals. Sorry, but I’m Asian too, and I don’t do math team, science olympiad, debate, tennis, or any of that, nor does any of my friends who are Asians. I am involved in music, yes, but so are many, many people in the school.

Perhaps it is true that “high achieving” Asians, like you said, have high stats, join “pre-professional clubs”, etc, but isn’t that true of high achieving kids of most ethnic groups?

Sorry for the digression from the original post. We totally hijacked your thread:)

^I guess that’s one thing we can agree on. Although I agree with you more than you think I do.
