has anyone ever heard of someone saying that when march comes around and colleges are sending out their accept/reject letters that if you get a small/thin envelope (probably containing a simple letter saying "no", then you are rejected and if you get a big packet (most likely registration stuff), then you are accepted?

It's only a rule of thumb, really. Not all schools send out acceptance letters in big packets with lots of information - for instance, in March, Wake sent my acceptance in a normal business-sized envelope with only a couple sheets of paper in it. I almost freaked out when I saw it (it had been a rough week for college apps with three waitlists in three days...) but it turned out to be good news.

But the majority of schools do send big packets with lots of info. A big packet usually isn't bad...

If you get a big packet, it's going to be good. No one is going to send a waitlist, rejection letter in a big packet.

However, if you get something small. It means nothing. All but one of my acceptances came in a small envelope last year. As did scholarship notifications.

You know what would suck? If you got a huge envelope, only to have to first page say: "YOU SUCK, NO WAY WE'RE ACCEPTING YOU!" In huge 72-font letters.

Also, it would suck if they sent you an acceptance letter (in a big envelope) that had someone else's name on it, so after all of the suspense and excitement of getting a big envelope, you realize that you still don't know.

OMG, that would be terrible, haha! Now I'm going to be paranoid about that actually happening because the admissions office was having a crazy day.

Hmm . . . those sounds like some great ideas . . . I do work-study in an admissions office, I think I'm gonna see if I can do something like that.

Yes. Many of Wake's envelopes somehow got stuck together last year (I heard it affected a lot of people), so I got my letter and someone else's that was stuck to mine.

Tulane was my favorite since their envelope asks in big letters on the front "Are you in?" Don't panic though if it's small, some of the UC's for example send small letters regardless if you got in or not.
