The Acceptance Formula

hey, i heard a lot of stories of 4.0/1550+ getting rejected by WUSTL but accepted to other top schools. And from what i heard, those top achievers didn’t show much attention (am I correct so far?).

I’m gone as low as 2.7 in my GPA but i still think i might be able to get in… if i demonstrate a lot of interest. But how do I do that? Which do you think will work… check all that apply!

I hate the term acceptance forumula. There really isn't one. I hate to say it, but even if they rejected their top top top candidates (which we don't really know, since only the rejected ones would really complain), 93% of Wash. U. is currently in the top 10% of their class.

I think a 2.7 is just too low. The deal with WashU is that they try to admit students that they think will come. They don't want to be viewed as an Ivy safety so if you don't show interest, then there is a chance that you'll get rejected, even if you have perfect stats. Also, WashU, like other top schools, looks at people as a whole and not just numbers. These 4.0/2400s could have been people with no personalities that studied all day and add nothing to make WashU a diverse and interesting enviornment. If you really want to, then you should give it a shot, but don't think showing a lot of interest will make up for extremely low stats

I have a 3.6 and have shown a massive amount of interest (emails, visit, interview, admissions receptions) i also have a 1320/2000 and both my parents went there. I applied EDI and was deferred. The truth is that wash u is going to take the top kids because they are a top school, enough kids show interest that they can fill a class

a 3.6 is even a low gpa for wash u. Getting in with a 2.7 is extremely unlikely, even if you get a near perfect score on the SAT.

I have a 3.67 UW, however I am #3 in my class. I don't know if that made it seem as if my school was really tough. I did however get 3 C's jr. year and a lot of B's, but I was still accpeted EDII. I think that WashU wants students who standout in a crowd and want to go to the school. I did two interviews and a visit and I think that there are characteristics about me that are unique enough that make me stand out. I'm sure I had great recs from teachers as well. Sure, maybe the fact that I'm black played a role. Admissions at top schools isn't always cut and dry and doesn't seem fair all the time. Private schools have the right to shape classes in a certain image with people they think want to go there. Fortunately, I was blessed enough to be apart of the equation this year. Its a toss up, but the only thing once can do is make sure they market themselves appropriately and show schools that they really wanna contribute to their community

I applied RD. I had a 4.0 W and was number 29 out of 155. I have a 30 ACT and decent SAT IIs. My school is extremely competitive and I am one of the top blacks in my class. I got 1 C junior year in Honors Pre-cal and 1 C this year in AP Chem. I started my own organization, Teens for AIDS Awareness and am very involved in other orgs such as StuCo, NHS, Model UN, etc. I'm also a member of the local NAACP, KPC, and I've been dancing for three years. I will also be a first-generation college student. I live in a single parent household. I was living in a bad section of Houston until my grandmother died from stage 4 lung cancer(i was living with her). I haven't done my interview yet, but it will have to be alumni considering that I just cannot afford to fly to Wash U right now. I am also an AP Scholar and have won lots of other awards. What do yall think my chances are?

Maybe, with wash U it's always a maybe. You are definitly a competitive applicant but you aren't a definate acceptance.

wow, msashe, you sound sorta like me (my gpa, test scores, and class rank are higher) but you come from a single family household and low-income. i think you have a much better chance than me, but i don't even know what my chance is so...

msashe06, I think you're in and I hope you do get in. Like I said, I had 2 C's junior year and a ishload of B's too. I think my ECs, essays, and recs were so strong that it made up for the downward trend. I still had a 4.67 W GPA and was ranked 3/435 in my class. So, with WashU...things can happen. I really do hope you get in. I'm an african american male too and I'd definately like to go to a college with people like you man, best of luck
