<p>The 7% figure comes from using 5400 as the number of applicants admitted, but that number is actually the goal for the size of the class UCLA wants to enroll.</p>

<p>From UCLA's data, the number of applicants admitted or waitlisted is around 72600-57000 = 15600, or 21.5% of the applicants. Admitted students must make up a significant portion of that, so the admit rate is not even close to 7% - it is almost certainly in the 15-20% range.</p>
