The ACT and I

My story:

So I first took the ACT in March. I felt, even with very little preparation, that I was going to do awesome. I was at the top of my school's most advanced math class, and ranked 2nd in the class, so why wouldn't I be confident?
The day I got the mail and opened that letter I don't think my heart ever fell so far down. I received a 24. It's still above average. Not too bad. I immediately signed up to retake it in June.
Before I knew it, and with a little bit more studying, the June test date had arrived. That time I took it I was not confident at all. The test seemed so much harder to me this time and I could not concentrate.
I got an email from ACT telling me my scores were ready a short time later. I checked on the website. I scored a 27. This actually made me really happy.
Now I have visited colleges and made a decision to attend Michigan State University. Their Honors college wants a score of at least 30. I have a new goal.
Not only do I want entrance into the Honors college, but a higher ACT score means a better chance at getting scholarships.
I am going to be taking the test on Sept. 13. I so far have been studying and taking many practice tests from a few books.
I've gathered from the forums here that the best books to get are Barron's and Kaplan. Are there any other suggestions? Is there anything else I can do really to prepare for the ACT? Any help is appreciated.

The 2 books that are staple in my preperation for the ACT are PR and The RED book. PR for its review of a wide range of material (don't use its reading strategies, though, use sparknotes online) and the RED book for its accurate tests.

Where can I find the Red book?

Amazon.com: The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Official Prep Guide From The Makers Of The ACT (Real Act Prep Guide): ACT Inc., Wallie W Hammond: Books

also Kaplan book

So I went to the library and got a Barron and Kaplan book. Hopefully I can get the red book. I think I would save those tests for the end because they are actual ACT tests. Thanks guys

Honestly, the best possible thing I did for the ACT is take every single free practice test of the ACT online that I could find (there were lots). Good luck with MSU and finding scholarships! (if you ever have any questions about MSU or the honors college let me know. I am a freshman from both)

That's awesome that your going to MSU. Do you have any specific info about scholorships because their website is horrible. There is no specific criteria they have.

MSU will let you know if you qualify for any of their scholarships. They go by what is on your application.
