The Admissions Radio Show

Staring next week, the Tufts radio station presents a weekly program on college admissions. Every Tuesday, from 3-5pm EST, we’ll play music and chat about admissions/Tufts/college. Perhaps you’ve got questions about how admissions works, or what to do when you visit a college over the summer, or how to put together the sort of badass application that would even impress David Bowie – call in. I’ll host each week, and we’ll have guests to talk about admissions trends and help answer and respond to your questions. Even if you have no interest in Tufts, the purpose of the show is to remove the veil of college admissions and have an open conversation about the process of finding and applying to college from the perspective of students and families and the admissions officers who should be the stewards of the process.

Over the last year, WMFO has collaborated with the admissions office on a couple of occasions to help us broaden the conversation around college admissions and Tufts. We partnered to put a panel of Tufts students on air for a Q&A on the student experience at Tufts. They provided the music for our April Open House Program with a live broadcast from the Academic Quad. And one of the WMFO exec board is responsible for the Tufts podcast and webcomic. I'm so delighted by their willingness to both train me and to give up the air time - hosting a radio show is a small dream of mine, and it's a personal and professional joy to have that dream come true in a small way.

You'll be able to stream the show over the internets – WMFO | Tufts University Freeform Radio – and you can call in (on Tuesday from 3-5pm EST) by dialing 617-627-3800. Or leave a question in the space below, and we'll answer it on air.

Dan - if nothing else, your pluralization of “internet” shows pretty conclusively you’re a relative youth. Love it. If there’s one thing Tufts needs, it’s moar internets.

Im on ur forums
startin sum threds.

Oh Snarf, shut up.

I think I just got a forum drive-by. Near as I can tell xylem has never posted on the Tufts forum before and we’ve never interacted.

Dan -I believe you mean “forumz”. ;-)

On air right now (3-5pm EST) - call into 617-627-3800 if you’ve got questions (or song requests)

Just listened to a bit and your voice sounded familiar - I think you spoke at my Senior Dinner at the Bacow’s. If that was you, you were hilarious.

Yep! I did that! Thanks for the ups.

AND CONGRATS ON GRADUATING!

I’ve got a question, admissions related.
(I’m actually streaming at the moment)
What if one has mediocre stats, and lacks volunteer hours? I love the idea of volunteering, I wish I did more of it. It always feels gratifyinglyfuzzinglywarmifying (if that makes sense) to help out. But what if certain circumstances (such as athletic activities on a daily basis - and lack of ride). I know lots of kids who volunteer just for the sake of their improving their college admissions - and I’m not one of them.

I love how Flying Lotus, Blackbird Blackbird, and Discovery was played, by the way. Do a lot of students listen to the station?

Play more Surfer Blood (I’d like to suggest Slow Jabroni and Harmonix) and Real Estate!

^^Boy, is that an unclear question. If you’re asking whether “mediocre stats” - by which I assume you mean transcript and test scores - will hurt you, the answer is yes.

@anxiousfail It doesn’t seem like actually listening to wmfo is super popular (the most listeners I’ve seen is around ten, but I’m new and this is just anecdotal evidence from my small range of experiences so far), but there are people who listen.
