For current students there, do you get used to the airplanes that fly overhead almost every hour?

the question is kind of silly. If they didn’t get used to it, they wouldn’t be in GTown. So everyone is going to say yes. And when I visited it last time (about a month ago since I take walks in DC) the frequency was far more often than hourly.

Yes.

They don’t disrupt classes, sleeping schedules, or anyother aspect of daily life. About the only thing they’re loud enough to do is make you pause if you’re on your cell outside.

Side note: if you like planes or biking, I’ve known some people who bike along the potomac through Virginia and watch the planes land at DCA. Supposedly you can get fairly close.

oh okay, thanks DCforme! yeah, i was sure people would get used to it, but i was wondering whether or not it would disrupt other things, so thanks!

Hi everyone, just thought I would chime in on this! I was at Georgetown for three weeks this summer for a JSA program, and for the first few days or so the airplanes were all anybody could talk about.
The airplanes do fly pretty low and near to the campus, so it can get kind of annoying at times. But really, by like the 2nd or 3rd week we all got used to it, and didn’t really care. You notice it, but don’t really dwell on it :D

You’ll get used to them. The tourists might not ever. For a while after 9/11 (or so I’ve heard I wasn’t actually there yet), it was a popular sport to point up at a low-flying airplane and say “OH MY GOD! THE WHITE HOUSE!” and really freak out people who weren’t familiar with campus. I once tried it, and some of the people on a nearby tour entirely flipped out.
