Hey everyone, I was just wondering how the AP Computer Science test at the end of the year was in general, one of the easier APs, or one of the harder ones? Even if you aren't great at coding what is the difficulty?

Bump…

Bump. It would be great if someone can tell me a little context for the AP Exam!

I took the test last year, and I personally found the test one of the easier ones, especially on the free response portion (I almost ran out of time on the MC because it takes time to think through each question–practice helps with that though since you can learn to recognize question patterns). I knew no coding prior to taking the AP CompSci class at my school, but I was able to learn what I needed for the exam pretty easily by doing practice exercises in class and reading the Barron’s book pretty completely at home (make sure to read through that book). I ended up getting a 5. Good luck to you! :)

Thanks! Would you say there is anything I specifically need to focus on (GridWorld, etc.)? Also, would you recommend any books to study from?

Yes, GridWorld is very important since you’re sure to be tested on it (make sure to familiarize yourself with the AP Quick Reference they’ll give you for the exam). Also, make sure you have a solid knowledge of the standard data structures tested (simple data types, classes, lists, and arrays) and how they work as well as sorting and searching methods.

In terms of books, I just used a Barron’s from 2010. Although it does contain some superfluous material, it contains pretty much everything you need to know.

Also, make sure to do a lot of multiple choice practice. In AP CompSci, it’s VERY easy to think you’ve answered a question correctly and then find you haven’t.

Thanks! This will help a lot.

question: I keep hearing about the GridWorld case study but what exactly is it?

Here’s everything you need to know about GridWorld:
