THE AP

i am planning to enter a US college this fall and i would like to take the ap exam. i want know it use and how it can help me in college thank you.

What do you mean “this fall” ? Fall of 2016? If so, you have missed most of the application deadlines. Don’t worry about the AP exams. Worry about your SATs instead.

Many, but not all colleges will give credit for AP exams with a score of 4 or 5, sometimes even with a 3. You will be able to skip some introductory courses with AP exam grades. Check each college website for details.

AP exams are used for placement and credit when you start college, less so for admission purposes.

Odds are you don’t need AP exams - if your national high school curriculum covers AP-level content, many colleges would award you credit and/or placement for your national high school leaving exams.

If you do want to take one or more AP exams, you’ll have to find an American-patterned high school that administers the exams and is willing to register you. Unlike for admission tests like the SAT or TOEFL, students don’t register for AP exams themselves; their school registers them.

@sasysamad are you attending a US college this fall, or applying to US colleges this fall (as you stated in your other thread)? There is a difference.

Lots of info about AP exams can be found by searching online, and by going to individual colleges’ websites regarding AP credit policies.

For example, BU also gives credit for introductory subjects on IB exams, and for grades of C or better in similar courses taken elsewhere. Caltech does not give credit based only on AP scores.

it was suppose to read “applying to a US college this fall” thanks for the correction.

You need to register ASAP if you’re to take tests in May! It’s possible the curriculum covers many similar things as what you’re studying in school but may have different approaches, ways of annotating/wording/writing some things, or entirely different content.
