The Apprentice & Class Warfare

The Donald's latest TV effort pits college grads against entrepreneurs who bypassed college in favor of work.

I'm guessing relatively few of our members plan to skip college at this point, but who do you think will prevail?

And is pitting people with college educations against those without a good idea?

I think the college grads (Magna) will perform well after some of its weaker members are fired. However, I think a high school grad will be hired in the end. Net Worth has two big assets: experience and a lack of the college ego thing. The members of Net Worth know how to get things done, whereas, members Magna understand the theory. Todd is the perfect example of a person who became too absorbed in the theory (or whatever he was doing the whole day), and he forgot to do the job. Furthermore, I predict there will be too many chiefs and not enough indians on Magna.

As for the idea behind the show, I think it is great for marketing: it puts a spin on the show that I have subconsciously wanted since the first season.

i think the street smarts will win. they have experience which is huge.

the college grads....they dont have experience nor did they graduate from stellar graduate schools. i dont think their knowledge is strong enough to beat the self-made-successful experience that hte street smarts have

"nor did they graduate from stellar graduate schools"

I think I heard that 70% of Fortune 500 CEO's went to non-Ivy schools. However, I do not have a source at the moment.

ivies arent the only stellar graduate schools....princeton barely has a grad school, dartmouth, brown, cornell arent known for grad schools. only leaves us with like 4 schools lol.

why do people automatically assume ivies? =D

When it comes time to choose the winner, Trump will have a big decision to make. He may feel obligated to select the college grad because he is big on education and college grads took on the burden of getting that education. However, he may also be obligated to hire the high school grad in order to send a message that success without college is possible. But if the high school grad wins, that person will have some big shoes to fill. He or she will have to show that he or she can tough it out with all of the college-educated executives.

this is going to be interesting....im rooting for the college grads because i would be one of them if i was on it...

Haha, me too starry. Although I must admit that I like more of the people on Net Worth versus those on Magna. Todd was a dolt and should have been fired (classic example of theory v. experience), and Danny's really the only person I like on their team. Net Worth seems to have the creative energy to get tasks done and done well, but Magna could step up later and surprise everyone by actually using what they've learned from their "top graduate schools" (come on...are you serious?) in combination with the experience that they should have gained by now. If they do that, they'll be unstoppable imo.

My parents are pretty much rooting for the "street smarts" while I'm like, "Hey! I'm gonna be one of those Magna nerds pretty soon! Don't hate!"

Coming from both schools of thought, and being somewhat of a nonexpert type thing on the issue, I am a freaking expert.

The high school graduates will excel in selling crazy stuff beacaw of the street smarts.

The Ivy League guys willl excel when it comes to non street sellling stuff.

Joev's ultimate prediction: The HS grads will win because the college grads will become too enamored with themselves in front of the camera.

"I think I heard that 70% of Fortune 500 CEO's went to non-Ivy schools. However, I do not have a source at the moment."

Allow me to rephrase, 30% of Fortune 500 CEOs went to Ivy League schools.

That's pretty impressive, consider they are only 8 (9?) schools with relatively small student bodies. VS the 3000+ other schools out there.

Talk to me tomrrow when you walk alone. I walk around this street of brkn drms.

I'm rooting for the street smarts crew. I like the team leader for this first episode for Net Worth (I forget his name). I think he's very competent and gets the job done quickly and efficiently without all the stupid little condescending words of praise from the other team leader like "I'm so proud of you guys! Good job! You did great! Excellent work! I love that Idea! continues to sit and scribble notes uselessly"

They just seem to be cooler people and much more humble.

I mean, Magna? What the heck kinda pretentious name is that. OoOoOoo we're all Magna Cum Laude, blah blah. I could see Trump's distaste when they told him about their name. He liked the Net Worth idea. The Magna name was also poorly presented to him.

Typically, a high-school graduate is not going to be as impressive as a college graduate, not only because they do not have the same knowledge, but because they are less refined and not as articulate. However, a minority of high-school graduates are extremely competent(hence Net Worth on this show).

As far as this show is concerned, the high-school grads are much more capable than the college grads. I am rooting for Net worth(even though Danny is cool). A

At first I though the team leader for Net Worth was really cocky and full of himself as a leader, but I was really impressed as time went on as to how he presented and handled himself as a leader. He's someone I would definetely enjoy working for.

Danny did screw up for marketing, but it really didn't make a difference anyways. At 12:30 in NYC, there's going to be large amounts of people packed into an inexpensive fast-food joint like Burger King regardless of some fundraiser or promotion. People were in very long lines for food, and the staff was simply not trained well-enough to move efficiently. If Todd was so dissappointed in Danny, then all he had to do was go outside and get him to help in the restaurant.

I'd definitely like to root for the college grads seeing as that's the path I've chosen for the next four years, but I'm not exactly sure team Magna is cut out for this season. I was initially skeptial of Net Worth, but I think The Apprentice really picked some of the best buisnessmen/women who did not attend college.

Does anyone know what schools some of the Magna members attended? They keep mentioning "prestigious schools" and I'd love to know which ones they are.

one was a music major, 1 Arizona State University, 2 University of Miami, 1 University of Florida, 1 Jackson State University (MS), 1 niversity of Memphis, and 1 Boston College

I think it makes for good television. There has always been an underlying presumption that a college educated person is more intelligent and more likely to succeed than one who lacks a piece of paper that seems to validate most people's existence. With that in mind it should be interesting how the advantages and disadvantages of having or not having a college education come into play, but always remember that this is a reality show and not an exact simulation of the real world.

Thanks shrek! :)

I guess we're not dealing with Harvard graduates like the previous shows...

WHAT??? no Ivy leagues in there??!! all they did first and second season was throw around Ivy names....okay...I find this very odd. i was going to say Trump will never hire a streetie over an Ivy, but there aren't any Ivies, i guess, so who knows? maybe he will do it.

I thought Erin was an idiot the entire time.

I tried to predict who was from what group before they even told us, because I knew they would be split College/Street beforehand. I did well, I only missed four.

And I don't think the fact that Net Worth makes 3x that of Magna means anything in the larger sense....it's just good TV "haha I make more money than you", as they keep saying-- which is juvenile. the app folks might have picked the people specifically to make it 3x the net worth of the college grads, just to up the tension.

the only one I kind of liked last night was Kendra, oh and Brian. I hate Tana, she is so damn annoying.

Maybe he deliberately did not pick Ivy/top schools in order to level the playing field?
